258: Duane Miller – Living Among the Breakage
Today I sit down with Duane Alexander Miller, author of “Living Among the Breakage: Contextual Theology-Making and Ex-Muslim Christians” Duane tells us about the transition that Muslims entering Christianity are making. The disruption or “faith crisis” they are having in islam, what it means to leave their faith and what transitions and adaptations they make enter Christianity and that Christianity is making to welcome them. Duane also tells us of his his church, the Anglican Church, is handling some of the same issues pressing on Mormonism at the moment giving us a taste of where a Church that has exponentially more members and been around longer is dealing with such things.

257: Those Who Doubt – Part 2
We did an episode recently title “Who is the Doubter” where we explored the data about Latter-day Saints who have serious doubts. We explored where they are finding information, what is their education, Socioeconomic status, level of activity, and their growth.
Today we pick up and share part 2 of some of their stories. There are around a 100 of these personal accounts. Today we share four of them of specific individuals who were part of this data including a Mission President. We tell their story. Rather then the naive labels applied recently by Meridian Magazine and the recent Deseret News Article we can see the real reasons dedicated members lose faith. We can hopefully allow space where rather than us decide the story of another, we let them tell their own story. When we honor another’s story we allow ourselves to be open to deeper truth. Join us for this and other episodes where we tell their story.

255: Who Is The Doubter?
Today we sit down and discuss the a study done to delve into who is the doubting Mormon. A study was done and presented to top LDS Leaders on the topic. Today we delve into the data and find out what is known about these folks and what we know about the growth of this segment. If nothing else the data suggests we have a real problem that can not be solved by blaming or marginalizing those who have had a decrease in institutional trust in Mormonism.

How to set up tithing so your donations are confidential
As many folks pray to God about tithing in the Church and make the decision that tithing for them should be paid on surplus, many of these members worry about the unrighteous judgement of a local leader who sees the surplus tithing as not acceptable. Today we help you to set up online tithing through bill-pay with your bank so that your tithing numbers remain confidential with local leadership. There are risks here which we will discuss as well including that Salt Lake will know your paying on surplus and hence your chance of a calling as a Bishop (or female general authority) or higher (callings that require approval from Salt Lake) are slim to none.

254: Tension and Paradox of The Temple Interview
As I have attended various firesides and opened myself up to Questions and Answers, what seems to be the most interesting points is the specific ways I reconcile tensions in Mormonism. Recently in particular a group of folks were deeply intrigued at how I approach a Temple Interview. That for them there is such a discomfort that they barely can make it through receiving a recommend at the end or simply do not “pass” and are amazed at the fact that at least at present I hold a valid current Temple Recommend. So today I go through the questions. Helping listeners to see my approach. for listeners to see how I define terms and what my thoughts are as I go through the important experience within Mormonism. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for listening!
