Podcast Episode: How Oral Health Impacts Mental Health
In todays episode Jake is joined by Dr. Demian Woyciehowsky who is a dentist doctor. They discuss on how oral health touches every aspect of our lives but is often taken for granted.
So what does oral health have to do with mental health? Well poor or neglected oral health can damage feelings of personal value and self-confidence, which is harmful to mental health. Since we are here to provide you with tips to all round wellbeing, oral health plays a big part in that. There is a close connection between the health of the body and that of the mind.
Oral health is a key indicator of overall health, wellbeing and quality of life. WHO defines oral health as “a state of being free from chronic mouth and facial pain, oral and throat cancer, oral infection and sores, periodontal (gum) disease, tooth decay, tooth loss, and other diseases and disorders that limit an individual’s capacity in biting, chewing, smiling, speaking, and psychosocial wellbeing.

Defensiveness sends terrible signals. When you indulge in it, you’re likely to be seen as insecure, closed-minded and overly emotional. None of these labels is going to help you be successful or build stronger relationships.

Suppress it with deep breaths, with listening and curiosity, and with demonstrations of accountability and willingness to learn.

Podcast Episode: Social-Emotional Learning: Why It Matters
We know that social-emotional learning (SEL) empowers students with abilities that directly impact not only their academic lives, but their success and happiness as adults.
We live in a stressful world, and our nation’s children and young adults are coping with new and prevalent emotional realities we can’t ignore. Research indicates that when educators work to teach learners how to alleviate and manage stress, students become more likely to learn deeply, avoid negative behaviors and achieve successful outcomes with long-term effects. Social-emotional learning (SEL) practices are the focus of copious research studies and it’s a good thing they are because SEL is needed more than ever.

Podcast Episode: Overcoming Procrastination
Everyone puts things off until the last minute sometimes, but procrastinators chronically avoid difficult tasks and deliberately look for distractions.
Procrastination in large part reflects our perennial struggle with self-control as well as our inability to accurately predict how we'll feel tomorrow, or the next day. "I don't feel like it" takes precedence over goals; however, it then begets a downward spiral of negative emotions that deter future effort. Perfectionists are often procrastinators; it is psychologically more acceptable to never tackle a task than to face the possibility of falling short on performance.
Jake digs deeper on the topic of procrastination. He shares tips on overcoming procrastination.
