Overcoming Fears & Trusting God After Losing a Baby with Laney Rene
In today’s episode, I sit down with Laney Rene, a wife & young mom who walked through a painful season when she lost her baby boy at 17 weeks pregnant. Like anyone would, Laney has struggled with fear, especially considering she is pregnant again! The Enemy has used lies that have caused her to turn her eyes from Jesus to herself - and through mental attacks, led her to question if she’s doing something wrong that will hurt the unborn baby she is carrying now. But Laney’s story doesn’t end there. She’s allowed Jesus to carry her through and remind her of who she REALLY is… a daughter of the King! Listen in as Laney shares a message of hope and encouragement for anyone who may be struggling to answer the question “Who am I?” and reminds us that Jesus can redeem all things for His glory. Raising Teens Part 2: Tips for Parents of Teens from Therapist Mary Weber
Attention Parents of Teenagers! This is part 2 of a 3 part series on parenting teens. If you missed week 1, listen to it here. According to the CDC, mental health problems in youth often go hand-in-hand with other health and behavioral risks like increased risk of drug use, experiencing violence, and higher risk sexual behaviors. In part 2 of our 3 part series on raising teens, licensed therapist Mary Weber is back to discuss what issues are most common with the young patients she sees (from anxiety to busy schedules), how to teach our teens resiliency instead of rescuing them, and ways we can come alongside our teens as parents, mentors, teachers and youth leaders. As always, Mary approaches these topics with kindness, empathy, grace and truth while sharing practical tips you can implement immediately. Plus, she gives a pep talk to parents who may want (and need) to have a difficult conversation with their kids! Mary Weber has been a licensed therapist for 36 years and is based out of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She has been well trained and educated, has a mountain of experience, & a deep love for the Lord. If you are the parent of a teenager, a youth leader in your church or if there are teens in your life who you love, don’t miss part 2 of this 3 part series. Raising Teens Part 1: Their Faith Beyond Youth Group with Researcher Kara Powell
Attention Parents of Teenagers! We’re kicking off a 3 week podcast series on parenting teens. Most typical youth ministries today produce nice, obedient kids who behave themselves - and then once they leave home, they leave the church and the faith. What are we (as the Church and as parents) doing wrong? I sit down to discuss this with Kara Powell, chief of leadership formation at Fuller Seminary, executive director of the Fuller Youth Institute (FYI), and professor of youth and family ministry. And what might qualify her the most is that she is a mom of 3 kids, ages 23, 21 and 17. Kara loves youth. She loves the church. And she also loves researching issues facing parents and youth leaders so she can help us better serve the next generation so they can become adults who hold fast to the Truth. This episode isn’t filled with Kara’s opinions, it’s filled with insightful data that can help us as parents. If you are the parent of a youth, a youth leader in your church or if there are youth in your life who you love, don’t miss part 1 of this 3 part series. Mayor Paul TenHaken: Early Riser, Big Impact - A Morning Routine for Success, Dealing with Anger
Adam is back for this month’s South Dakota series episode with Paul TenHaken, the mayor of Sioux Falls (South Dakota’s largest city)! Mayor TenHaken first took office in 2018 and is currently serving his second (and final) term. He has amassed an impressive list of accomplishments for the city, which was named one of the best run cities in the country in 2021! During their conversation, Paul and Adam discuss how rising early (from cold plunges to reading the Bible) has made a huge, positive impact on how they take on challenges throughout their day. Leaving Jesus & The Church - Why You Should Consider Staying with Blaine Eldredge
A recent Pew Research Center study estimates that 31% of people raised in the Church become unaffiliated between ages 15 to 29 and an additional 7% of people raised in the Church become unaffiliated later in life, after the age of 30. Why is this happening? Why should a person consider staying? Is there anything that can or should be done? In today’s conversation, I sit down with author and teacher Blaine Eldredge. Blaine grew up in a home with parents who are both well-known Christian leaders. You might be familiar with his dad, author John Eldredge. Even though he grew up in a “Christian home”, Blaine went through periods of time wrestling with his faith and exploring other options. Listen in to hear Blaine’s thought provoking response to why many are leaving the Church and what can be done about it. Grab a copy of Blaine’s book The Paradise King here.
