E47: The Islamic Philosophy of Business (Tafseer 18)

Islam has very clear teachings about how we should conduct ourselves in business, what the overriding principles are that we should maximise, and what high-level transaction all our transactions ultimately feedback into. In this podcast we synthesize all that into a pithy philosophy and a story.

E46: 50% returns buying small businesses - and how you can too

I've been investigating the market for small businesses for around 2 years now. Small businesses offer a tremendous investment opportunity if you can acquire them and run them (or get someone to run it). I share with you my experience of the market, how the pricing works, where to find these small businesses, and why this is a BUYER's market. So whether you want to buy a business in order to quit your job and be your own boss, or whether 50% returns attract you, this episode is a must-listen. If you'd like us to really build out the content on this area, I need to hear your demand - drop me an email on mohsin@islamicfinanceguru.com to let me know!

E41: 5 reasons why interest is haram (Tafseer s.17)

We're taking a look at verses 2:175-179 - the verses forbidding interest. The 5 reasons are:  1. It is exploitative of the poor (as they are generally those who require debt)  2. Interest gives rise to an exploitative economic system even if a specific instance of a loan may not appear to be exploitative.  3. Money has no intrinsic value and so cannot be rented.  4. To try to rent "the value imbued within currency by others in society" is not (a) clear/certain; and (b) appears to be renting out something a lender has no right to be renting out.  5. lending money leads to a devaluation of the very thing being loaned (due to inflation).  Please take a second to rate our podcast and leave a comment!
