Episode 151: Big Jim  James H. Fetzer was born in Pasadena, California, on 6 December 1940. At graduation from South Pasadena High School in 1958, he was presented The Carver Award for leadership. He was magna cum laude in philosophy at Princeton University in 1962, where his senior thesis for Carl G. Hempel on the logical structure of explanations of human behavior won The Dickinson Prize. After being commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps, he became an artillery officer and served in the Far East. After a tour supervising recruit training in San Diego, he resigned his commission as a Captain to begin graduate work in the history and philosophy of science at Indiana in 1966. He completed his Ph.D. with a dissertation on probability and explanation for Wesley C. Salmon in 1970.     He has published more than 100 articles and reviews and 20 books in the philosophy of science and on the theoretical foundations of computer science, artificial intelligence, and cognitive science. On this web page, his publications have been divided by area, including special vitae for computer science, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, evolution and cognition, and his applied philosophical research on the death of JFK. His biographical sketch has appeared in many reference works, including the DIRECTORY OF AMERICAN SCHOLARS, WHO'S WHO IN THE MIDWEST, WHO'S WHO IN AMERICA, and WHO'S WHO IN THE WORLD. Episode 150: A hero's tale   Bernie Taylor is an independent naturalist, thought leader and author whose research explores the mythological connections and biological knowledge among prehistoric, indigenous and ancient peoples. His works in these areas include Biological Time (2004) and Before Orion: Finding the Face of the Hero (2017). Before Orion is premised on Joseph’s Campbell’s hero’s journey monomyth that is at the core of stories worldwide among indigenous peoples, the ancients, and our modern society.  Before Orion explores a deeper root for this monomyth by looking at how hunter-gatherers viewed themselves within the natural and spiritual worlds through Paleolithic cave art from 40,000 years ago. Taylor proposes that select cave paintings are fundamental pieces in the human journey to self-realization, the foundation of written language, and a record of biological knowledge that irrevocably impacted some of the artistic styles, religious practices, and stories that are still with us. Taylor addresses a profound archaeological elephant in the room by opening up an uncharted place in our history, which points to the cultural ancestors of mankind in western North Africa. Episode 149: In Tenebris Jaimy Mauricio was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to Portuguese immigrant parents. He has faced and escaped death several times in his life. These experiences have provided him with an interesting and inspiring perspective on life, which he shares in his writings. Jaimy has spent most of his career as an engineer and business professional. He has traveled throughout North America and now lives in Newport, Rhode Island. In his spare time, he researches and maintains an interest in metaphysics, history, religion, and ufology. His first book, “Beyond 2012: Watch Where You’re Going,” has been considered by many as an insightful book that will positively change one’s look on life by asking the reader to really consider where they are going in their life. The conversation opened up with introductions and backgrounds. Michael relays he is an open-minded skeptic and asks “why do you hang on to your supernatural beliefs?” Michael brought up 9/11 and the aftermath of the event, Jaimy authored the book “Beyond 2012: Watch Where You’re Going”. In one of the chapters in his book, he shared a similar message to one Michael mentioned. The feeling of being united was felt throughout the nation and how those feelings no longer exist today. On August 10, 2008, Jaimy Mauricio, the author of Beyond 2012: Watch Where You’re Going, felt a divine inspiration and calling to write this book. About two months prior, the entire story was somehow magically implanted in his mind and he could not get it out of his head. However, it wasn’t until that day in August, when he experienced a unique calling from someone he just couldn’t say “no” to, that he began writing. Episode 146: Cryptozoology In the first hour of this episode, Michael welcomed back writer, and paranormal investigator Linda Godfrey to the show. Linda is the author of eighteen books on cryptids and related topics, including most recently Monsters Among Us: An Exploration of Otherworldly Bigfoots, Wolfmen, Portals, Phantoms, and Other Odd Phenomena. In more than twenty-five years spent “chasing” monsters, Godfrey has found that it often remains unclear whether the sightings are simply mistaken animals, hoaxes, or coincidence. When all the speculation is said and done, one question remains for fans and researchers: Are the creatures “real,” or are they entirely “other-world?” Godfrey suspects that it isn’t an either/or question–our reality operates on a scale from dense matter to realms the human eye cannot see. Linda shared lots of wisdom from her career as a writer of books on upright canines and other mysterious creatures, and also opened up about her own paranormal experiences, as well as her opinions on various cryptids.  Episode 145: Future Rising  Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Bob Maginnis graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, the Naval Postgraduate School, the Command & General Staff College, the Defense Language School and the Army War College’s strategy course. He is an Airborne-Ranger infantry officer with service in four infantry divisions on three continents. Once retired from the U.S. Army he joined the Family Research Council where he rose to be the vice president for policy before returning to the Pentagon 16 years ago. He continues his association with FRC by serving as the senior fellow for national security. He is the vice president for his contracting firm with duties at the Pentagon where he supervises a team of national security experts and serves as a security cooperation expert for the Department of the Army as well as instructing a course at the Army War College. Colonel Maginnis has decades of media experience as a columnist, a Fox News military analyst and as an on-air commentator for multiple radio programs and networks. He is the author of nearly a thousand articles and five published books.
