In the summer, the sun rises early and sets late, and I find that when I watch both the sunrise and the sunset, I am able to sleep better while feeling incredibly grounded. It also helps that I leave my windows open when I sleep. In the morning, the sun shines directly through my window, waking me up and allowing me to go outside and get sunlight in my eyes first thing. Hydrate. Being dehydrated leads to so much we don’t think about, such as mood swings and feeling exhausted. Reading a book, playing a board game, talking to someone, journaling, painting, making bracelets, going for a walk, or just sitting and enjoying what’s around you are all things that occupy the brain, while also replacing unnecessary screen time.2 Finding more movement. Aside from working out, how can we continue to move our bodies? With the weather being warm, can we park a little farther away and walk to dinner? Can you bike to your workout class? Can you meet up with friends outside for a walk instead of happy hour? Can you make an activity goal of 5,000 steps at sunset every night? There’s always a way to go one step further in order to better yourself, and there are countless creative ways to do so. Eating fresh, seasonal foods. Eating seasonally, like buying fresh peaches or jersey tomatoes, feels amazing and tastes delicious. Are there new recipes you can try out, such as grilled chicken on top of a greek salad with a side of orzo? Or adding mint to a fresh squeezed lemonade? Walking to the farmer’s market is also a great way to get active, eat locally and seasonally, and get creative in the kitchen. These 5 simple tips are a great place to start your journey! While these tips are simple and you will notice a big impact, they're not always easy to do everyday.
