Why reality TV is the best communications teacher

169: Sam and Juliette from Siesta Key teach me more about communication than my Bachelor's Degree in the same field. Shep from Southern Charm shows me how using high-level vocabulary is a way to exert dominance in a conversation, but he does so in the douchiest way possible. Why am I referencing reality TV? Because it taught me SO MUCH about non-verbal and verbal cues, making connections, and resolving conflict - all components of strong communication. When you know how to communicate effectively, you've scored the golden ticket to life.Communication skills will help you: Meet strangers while traveling (imagine clinking glasses of sangria after a random cooking class and then grabbing drinks later - I'll tell you the story of this happening to me!) Date confidently (the world is opening up and IRL dates are back - communication is key) Negotiate your salary like a San Fransisco tech bro (aka get paid without questioning your skill set) Resolving a conflict with a family member (I share how blowing up on a sibling via text was not my finest moment) Interviewing someone for your show (a skill that transcends the airwaves - this will get you VERY far in life. I share specific examples)If you're hoping to learn the skill of communicating, Interview & Hosting Lab is for you. Join us right HERE.References:Brené Brown podcast with Dr. Amishi JhaLet's connect! How to stop putting people on pedestals

168: Influencers, celebs and mega coaches are often treated as mythical Gods. We think they’re untouchable, immune to the suffering life brings, and have zero worries in the world. We think they don’t deal with the “everyday” things we do — paying an extra $25 on DoorDash for a 14 inch pizza that costs $18 or feeling insecure when their crush ghosts them on Date 3.When we put them on pedestals, we dehumanize them. In the same vein, we make ourselves small. The automatic comparison and projection prompts self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and keeps us stuck in a constant cycle of feeling inspired, then comparing, sabotaging or worse, staying stuck and never trying at all.In today’s solo ep, Chelsea deep dives into this concept. Why do we put so much weight into social following? Why are we so quick to take IG photos as truth? Why don’t we use more discernment when making snap judgments? She also shares ways to take people off of pedestals so you can finally get out there and shoot your shot. Pitch that host. Message your fave mentor to come on your podcast. Land a dream guest interview.Your stories matter. If you’re interested in learning more about these mindset strategies, especially as it comes to creating and conversing with other people, you’ll love Interview & Hosting Lab. It’s a 2 hour workshop all about the art & science of storytelling and hosting jaw-dropping interviews. You can learn more and register right here.References mentioned in this episode: The School of Life - On Melancholy Forbes Under 30 Summit with Alexandra CooperCONNECT WITH CHELSEA: Website: chelseariffe.com IG: @chelseariffe + @nonexpertopinionpod Email: 🔗 Pitch Perfect starts October 13th! How to strengthen your intuition by traveling & travel stories feat. Karen Maloney

167: We all have intuition. That deeper knowing. That feeling you can’t explain. It usually comes to us in moments of stillness. In today’s world, stillness is... practically non-existent. We’re too busy to meditate. Too tired to journal. Too impatient to do breath-work. Not to mention, absolutely inundated with content, opinions, news, and requests.Connecting with our intuition and making space for our thoughts feels like a pipe-dream sometimes. However, there is one way to develop it that’s maybe more... fun. And that’s travel! In today’s episode, Chelsea sits down with Karen Maloney, an INSIDE OUT Coach, Silent Counseling Practitioner & Energy Therapist. Is money mindset and manifestation making you broke? with Chioma Njoku (The Mindful Bookkeeper)

165: I know you read the title of this episode, thinking "WTF - is Chelsea okay??? Money mindset work changed my life"! Confession: it changed mine too. But it wasn’t until I worked with today’s guest, Chioma Njoku, aka The Mindful Bookkeeper, that I saw real change. Why? She held me accountable in different ways other coaches never had. She called me on my BS. She noticed how patterns I carried in my personal life spilled over to my bank accounts.Without her, I wouldn’t have gotten my financial shit together. And it’s why she’s making another appearance on this podcast to deliver her No B.S. view on money mindset, manifestation, marketing with your numbers, and how certain metrics actually aren't all cracked up to what they aim to be.If you love her approach, you’re going to love her podcast, Cheers to Your Prosperity, where she shares content like “11 ways to grow your bank account without selling more” or how you can still have your daily coffee and still get rich!Caution: this episode may open your mind to new perspectives.About Chioma: Chioma Njoku, also known as Chi (pronounced chee), is the owner and Chief Mindful Operator at the Mindful Bookkeeper. Drawing on her experiences as a yogi, accountant, and financial coach, she helps business owners become mindful of all that can influence and impact their finances. With mindfulness (awareness), business owners are better equipped to keep more of their hard-earned money in the bank without sacrificing the things that makes life enjoyable, such as coffee and dinners with friends.CONNECT WITH CHIOMA:Instagram: @mindfullychioma🔗 Pitch Perfect starts October 13th!
