PHOTO 273: Turn your passion project into success with Romain Thiery

Meet Romain Thiery, an amateur piano player who started  learning piano at the age of 5 and started photography 10 years ago, that hobby turned into a passion and, eventually, a profession the day he found a forgotten piano in an abandoned castle in south of France. Romain Thiery believes the piano to be, in his own words, « deeply rooted in the depths of our culture » and sought to explore the instrument from an original angle. He made his life’s mission to combine his two biggest passions and set out to find abandoned mansions around Europe where old pianos had been left behind. The series that emerged from Thiery’s work is called « Requiem pour pianos » and has catapulted the photographer name into notoriety among tastemakers and art connoisseurs around the world. In recent years, he has won international photography awards at various competitions and festivals. You’ll discover: how he started in photography, how his love of photographing pianos in abandoned locations evolved, the process of finding pianos in abandoned locations, what it feels like to walk into those abandoned homes, how he lights and shoots his images, the opportunities that have been created as a result of this project, and much more.  Gina and Valerie hope you enjoy the podcast. PHOTO 268: How to stand out from the pack with Phlean’s Aaron Nace

If you’ve wondered how you can use Photoshop to transform your images or give them some extra pop, you’ll love this interview with Arron Nace. Founder of Phlearn and guru of all things Photoshop, you’ll discover tips and workflows that will take your images to the next level. In 2011, Aaron founded PHLEARN to bring creative education to anyone around the world. Gina and Valerie hope you enjoy the podcast.
