Milan Design Week with Eugeni Quitllet and Tarik Zaharna | MINDED Podcast
Eugeni Quitllet and Tarik Zaharna join the MINDED Podcast Live from Milan on its season 2 debut. They talk about the energy and excitement around the biggest design event of the year, alongside Eugeni discussing his new role as Creative Director of American luxury company Sutherland Furniture. Tarik goes in depth about his exhibition at Artemest' L'Appartamento, where he is proud to showcase his middle-eastern culture. Dive in!
With an exceptional, visionary eye for furniture design, Quitllet is the creative force behind iconic pieces such as the Masters Chair for Kartell, in collaboration with Philippe Starck, and Vondom’s Love Series. Philippe Starck’s 2009 Robinwood collection for Sutherland was an inspiring effort, and Eugeni was integral to those designs and their success. Eugeni has also collaborated with Roche Bobois, Christofle, Foscarini Lighting, Driade and Dedon – partnerships that are widely applauded and appreciated. Quitllet’s industrial design background and keen eye for romantic lines are a great combination. He plays with form and void, resulting in gravity-free designs using thoughtful materials. His first chair (Monaco) for Sutherland, now in production, will be introduced in the summer of 2023. It is made from recycled ocean plastics in combination with Sutherland’s acclaimed teakwood, complementing the sophisticated styling so expected from Sutherland. Designing with sustainability in mind will be an overriding approach as Eugeni crafts futuristic pieces for timeless beauty.
Based in Dubai and Luxembourg, Tarik has a passion for developing an Architectural and Design language globally, nurturing the humble beginnings of what could become a new and dynamic Architectural Movement. His experiences have allowed him to position himself as a young pioneer in the steadily growing Design and Architecture scene of the Middle East. For him, Architecture is a craft-science that responds to a plethora of factors tied to human and spatial behaviours, which attempts to improve human activity and interaction through an Architects’ informed creative intellect and interpretation of the context. In its essence, Architecture is shaping and defining ‘place’ for successful human activity with this philosophy, attention to detail has been consistent throughout his academic and professional career.
