Welcome to the mindful fire podcast, where we explore living mindfully on the path to financial independence and beyond. I'm your host, Adam Coelho and I'm so glad you're here. On today's episode. I'm joined by my friend, Martie Adler, a consultant coach, and end of life, doula, who I met at the wisdom 2.0 conference.Among a conference of thousands of people, Martie and I ended up in a community gathering breakout room on zoom and really connected on a number of topics. In this conversation, Martie and I dive into a number of topics, including conscious living, envisioning the future we want and the gift of elderhood.Martie and I dive deep into the idea and practice of envisioning something that's been really impactful in my life. We discuss how we can apply envisioning to our life as we think about financial independence and retiring early. She's worked with a lot of people who get to the point of their life where they don't need to work anymore, and then don't know what they want to do with their life. And so she shares why it's so important that we envision what we want our life to look like all the time, as an ongoing practice and how the language that we use when we think about what we are creating and as we interact with other people in the world, how that really shapes our environment. I share a number of stories in this episode around how I've envisioned both positive and negative things in my life and the impact that that's had.Lately I've been feeling really called to dive deeper into this idea of envisioning and to create a workshop, to empower listeners of the mindful fire podcast, to get clear on what their vision is for their future. So if after listening to this episode, you feel that you want to dive deeper into this practice and you'd like to attend a workshop on this practice of envisioning, please let me know. 36 : Meditation : Practicing Compassion For Those Who Are Suffering
Welcome to The Mindful FIRE Podcast, where we explore living mindfully on the path to financial independence and beyond. I'm your host Adam Coelho and I'm so glad you're here. This guided meditation is a practice of offering kindness and compassion to those who are suffering. With so much suffering happening in the world, the question of how I can help often leaves me feeling overwhelmed. But this simple practice of Metta, or loving kindness, which I learned from Sharon Salzberg and others, is a way of offering kindness and compassion to those who need it. Think of it as sending out kindness or good vibes to those who are suffering. It’s incredibly powerful. Not only does it feel good and put positive energy into the universe, it orients your mind towards kindness and helping. Training this muscle of compassion makes it more likely that you’ll recognize opportunities to help those in need in your own part of the world when the situation arises. In this practice we begin by settling the mind by checking in with ourselves and then eventually finding our way to the peace of the breath. Then we switch gears into the loving kindness compassion practice which we direct towards our self, someone suffering in our life and finally to all those who are suffering in the world.I hope you enjoy this practice and would love to hear what you think. 34: Meditation : Resting In The Simplicity of This Moment
Welcome to The Mindful FIRE Podcast, where we explore living mindfully on the path to financial independence and beyond. I'm your host Adam Coelho and I'm so glad you're here. This guided meditation practice is an invitation to set everything in your busy life to the side for a little while and to rest in the incredible simplicity of this moment. We all have so much going on in our lives: things to do, things to plan, things we’re worried about, kids and family to take care of, jobs to do, etc. The list is endless. However, if we choose to, we can set aside everything that has come before and everything that is yet to come and just drop into this timeless moment of now, if only for one breath. That’s what we’re practicing with this guided meditation practice. It’s my invitation to you to rest in the simplicity of having nothing to do besides resting in the awareness of just this in breath and just this out-breath, exactly as they are moment by moment by moment and breath by breath by breath. I hope you enjoy this practice and would love to hear what you think. Drop me a DM on Instagram @themindfulfirepodcast. Be well, my friends. 32 : Meditation - Letting Go of What's Not Serving You
Welcome to The Mindful FIRE Podcast, where we explore living mindfully on the path to financial independence and beyond. I'm your host Adam Coelho and I'm so glad you're here. As we transition seasons from Spring to Summer, what are you carrying that is no longer serving you? It may be the weight of things you said you would do or change when at the start of the year. It may be obvious or it may be more subtle. I know that I personally have been noticing a story in my head about all the things I told myself I would do this year and did not get to yet. I've even been feeling bad about not meditating as regularly as I would like. As I pause during this period of transition from Spring to Summer, I've asked myself a wise question, shared by a friend many years ago, "Is this useful?". The reality is, it's not. With that awareness, can I choose to be kind and compassionate to myself and simply let it go?That's what today's meditation is all about. It's a self compassion practice that invites you to let go of anything that is not serving you as you transition into the summer and the second half of the year. I hope you receive it as an invitation to be kinder and gentler with yourself, because you're carrying a lot this year and last year. Put some of that weight down and move forward fresh. 31 : A Three Month Sabbatical That Changed Everything with Eric Sanabria
“It forced me to be intentional about every choice that I make and that every choice can have a consequential impact. Obviously not everything is gonna be life-changing, but at least treat every decision, every moment that life presents you with the attention it deserves.” - Eric SanabriaWelcome to the Mindful FIRE Podcast, where we explore living mindfully on the path to financial independence and beyond. I’m your host Adam Coelho and I’m so glad you’re here. In today’s episode I’m joined by my good friend Eric Sanabria. Eric and I used to work together at Google and now Eric is the Chief Business Officer for Oyster Financial in Mexico city.In this episode, Eric and I explore how he came to learn to trust himself and his intuition about what he really needed during a difficult period in his life and how he ultimately took a three month sabbatical from his work at Google and how that sabbatical redefined his life and his priorities.Eric felt this need within himself to take a break and he trusted this intuition and this feeling of simply one to take some time off, turn inward and to go to Mexico, to play his guitar. And that's exactly what he did.One thing that stands out to me about this whole conversation is how important it is to take a step back sometimes to slow down, to create some space where we can turn down the volume and the busy-ness so that we can see more clearly what's going on in our minds and our hearts and our bodies. And really that's what he did with this three months sabbatical. He cleared some space to go to Mexico, to play music, to work on the book, the artist's way, which included a lot of journaling and self exploration. And he really came to understand what's important to him, what he wants to get out of life and make some pretty big changes, ultimately resulting in him living and working in Mexico. In this episode, Eric share some concrete practices for how you can tap into what it is you need, what it is you want, and to work through some of the limiting beliefs that might be coming up that tell you that you shouldn't pursue what you feel you need and how to deal with that using journaling, mindfulness and other techniques .I really enjoyed this episode with my friend Eric sanabria. I think there's a lot of wisdom here. I learned a lot. It was a very reflective episode for me. I hope that you enjoy it as well. 🔥 Did you know that only 14% of reorgs are successful? 29 : Meditation - Compassion for India (A Loving Kindness Practice)
Welcome to the Mindful FIRE Podcast, where we explore living mindfully on the path to financial independence and beyond. On today's guided meditation we practice sending compassion and loving kindness to the people of India who are suffering terribly under the overwhelming 4th wave of COVID-19. This practice of sending them well wishes nourishes your own heart and combats a feeling of helplessness. It may not immediately solve the issue but it orients your mind towards compassion, towards helping those who are suffering. That is powerfulIn this practice we first settle our mind and body. After some time we transition to cultivating compassion through the practice of loving kindness (metta). We expand our circle of care, starting with ourselves, out until we include all the people suffering in India and ultimately all people, everywhere. I hope you find this supportive during these difficult times. 🔥 Did you know that only 14% of reorgs are successful? That means 86% of reorgs fail to achieve their goals. Shocking!
