57 : Meditation : Release Worry with Body Awareness & Self Compassion
Welcome to the Mindful FIRE Podcast, where we explore living mindfully on the path to financial independence and beyond. The holidays are a time of joy but they can also bring about stress and worry. This is especially true with the recent surge in covid cases due to the new Omicron variant. I hope you are staying healthy and safe during these challenging times.Today's practice is an invitation to take a moment for yourself to release this stress and worry by resting in a simple awareness of your body sitting and breathing. I find that there is something really grounding and easeful about resting in the simplicity of feeling my body breathe in and out. We finish today's practice with a simple loving kindness compassion practice in which we practice sending well wishes to ourselves, a loved one and all beings everywhere. This practice of sending and receiving compassion connects us with our inherent goodness and just feels nice. I wish you and your family, health, safety and happiness during this holiday season and into the new year! 56 : Leaving Google, Learning How to Rest and Clarifying Her Vision with Julia Li
"I wrote this mantra to myself where I said 'I celebrate uncertainty and I delight and not knowing what comes next.'" - Julia LI Welcome to the mindful fire podcast, where we explore living mindfully on the path to financial independence and beyond I'm your host, Adam Coelho and I'm so glad you're here. On today's episode, we're rejoined by my friend, Julia Li, who joined us on episode 15 of the mindful fire podcast. In the fall of last year, Julia and I connected and she shared that she was about to make a big change in her life. She was going to leave Google, and pivot to a new career in the field of sustainability. And we thought it would be really cool for us to do a two-part episode. Before and after she left Google. The first episode, episode 15, we explore why she's making this change, how she's thinking about it and how she's thinking about making the move into a new career, in the field of sustainability. Today, we're almost exactly six months from when she left Google and took a six month sabbatical to rest rejuvenate and clarify her vision of what she wants to create for her life as she moves into this next chapter in the world of sustainability. Since Julia and I were catching up for over 2 and a half hours, I've decided to break the conversation into multiple episodes. This is part one of our conversation 6 months after Julia left Google to take time off and pivot into the field of sustainbility. In today's episode Julia and I caught up on:all aspects of what has happened since we last spoke a few months before leaving Google after 6 yearswhat it was like in the last couple of months, as she was preparing to leave Googlehow she was thinking and feeling about that.what it was like when she was on the other side. how she really need to learn how to rest and how she learned to practice resting just like you would practice anything else like meditation or the guitar or any other skillWe talk about how so many of us, even when we're resting, feel like we should still be doing something productive, learning something or growing in some way. Sometimes it's really important to just rest with no other agenda than to take care of ourselves. Julia shares how she embarked on some self exploration to clarify her vision of what she wanted to create. She shares how she used🔥 Did you know that only 14% of reorgs are successful? 55 : Guided Affirmation Practice with Adam Coelho
Today's guided meditation is an affirmations practice. You can think of it as practicing the beliefs or mindsets you'd like to carry forward in your day to day life. It's an incredibly powerful practice that puts the predictive power of your brain to work for you to create the future you want. This session begins with a simple mindfulness of breath practice, simply resting in awareness of the sensations of breathing in the body. After settling the mind on the breath, I invite you to bring to mind a belief or way of being you’d like to embody as you show up in your life. You can choose a belief about your self or about the world that would be useful to embody more in your life. For instance, I practice "the world is abundant with opportunity" and "I am guided by curiosity". Those are beliefs that I want to embody as I move through my life. Then I guide you as you practice seeing how that belief was in the past, how it's true now in the present and how it will be true in the future. You’ll practice seeing how you’ve lived that belief in the past, how you’re living it in the present and how you will live it in the future in as much detail as possible. This is an incredibly powerful practice and one that I do most days. This practice had a profound impact on me during one of the most difficult times in my life. The more we practice seeing ourself living each belief in the past, present and future, the more evidence we give our brain that this is in fact true. Because it is! Do this for a while and magic will happen! I hope you enjoy this practice and would love to hear what you think! 54 : Leaving Google For a Career In Sustainability and a 3 Month Break (Before) with Julia Li
Introducing the series Before & After Leaving Google to Pivot Into a Career in Sustainability with Julia Li. Subscribe now to receive the next part of the series in 2 weeks. Last year around this time, my good friend, Julia Li told me she was getting ready to leave Google after six years and switch careers into the field of sustainability. What you'll hear in today's episode is the conversation Julia and I had before she left Google; how she came to the decision, what preparations she made financially and otherwise, and what she hopes for from the three months she'll be taking off of work before she starts pursuing a job in the sustainability space.I originally released this episode earlier this year and it was by far one of the most popular episodes. I wanted to repost it so people could have the context of what it was like before Julia transitioned out of Google and embarked on this three months of reflection. This past summer, Julia and I caught up six months after she left Google. And just before she was getting ready to start her new job in the field of sustainability. It was really interesting to hear how Julia approached her time off and how she ultimately found what she wanted to do in this huge field of sustainability. And then how she went about actually getting a job in the space. The conversation was so interesting, it lasted for more than two and a half hours. So I'll be breaking it up into two episodes that I'll be releasing starting in two weeks. I'm really excited to share this series with you at the end of the year, because the end of the year is really a period of reflection and deep thinking about our lives and the changes we might want to make to move more into alignment with what's most important to us. So much is in flux right now with the pandemic and with the great resignation. More and more people are looking closely at what is most important to them, what truly matters to them, and questioning how they want to spend their limited time and energy. So I thought it would be helpful and inspiring to share Julia's journey of doing just that. To see how she approached making big changes in her life that were honestly really scary but help her move more into meaning, purpose and alignment with her values. On today's episode of the podcast, because it's Thanksgiving week in the United States, we're going to do a meditation on thankfulness. We're going to cultivate awareness of all the blessings we have in our life. And we're going to practice resting and a feeling of gratitude or thankfulness for all that we have. Often in my life, I find that I'm leaning forward into the future and focused on all the things that I don't have, all the things that I want to achieve or attain. There's really a feeling of striving that permeates a lot of my life. I've been trying to come more into the present moment and to recognize all of the amazing things I have in my life already and to cultivate a sense of thankfulness gratefulness and contentment with what is. And so that's what we'll practice here in this. Short meditation, practice of thankfulness.
