Russia and India Race to the Moon
In what has been framed as a modern space race to the lunar south pole, both India and Russia have embarked on ambitious lunar missions. Although it’s easy to become caught up in who will touch down first, these missions represent a wealthomore than a competition.
India's latest lunar venture, Chandrayaan-3, commenced its journey on July 14, 2023, entering the moon's orbit on August 5. The craft is currently executing orbit reduction maneuvers, preparing for a landing attempt anticipated for August 23.
The target site for the Chandrayaan-3 is situated at 69.37°S 32.35°E. Solar considerations are paramount, as the sun's rise at this location will illuminate the area by August 21 GMT, thereby providing the required power for the solar-powered Vikram lander and Pragyan rover. The estimated landing time is 17:47 IST (1217 GMT, 08:17 a.m. EDT) on August 23.
Both the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover are solar-powered and have a mission lifetime of one lunar daytime (approximately 14 Earth days). This makes the timing of the landing vital to the mission's success and the amount of scientific exploration that can be carried out.

X Corp: From Twitter to "Everything App"
In a notable shift from the well-known brand, Twitter is no longer. Elon Musk’s X Corp is paving a new path, forging its identity through a multifaceted transition that aims to transform the popular microblogging site into an "everything app." As the transformation unfurls, memorabilia that was once synonymous with the bird-themed platform is now finding its way to the auction block.
The Auction Unveiled
As a part of the sweeping rebrand, over 600 pieces of Twitter's heritage are up for auction. Scheduled to kick off on September 12 and conclude on September 14, this event is poised to attract those nostalgic for the former Twitter brand.
The auction's collection includes emblematic neon signs featuring the Twitter bird, a larger-than-life hashtag, the iconic "@" symbol, and assorted branded furniture like a bird-themed wooden coffee table and a hanging sofa swing shaped like a birdcage.
This auction follows a similar event at the year's beginning, which saw various office fixtures and electronics find new owners. Among the eclectic offerings, there’s even a "Twitter Essentials" 24-record collection, including a record player.
Estimating the total revenue from these sales might prove challenging. During a previous auction, a three-foot Twitter bird statue fetched a high bid of $100,000.

Musk's Record Earnings and massive Tesla plant in Indonesia
The notable bet by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, to amplify sales and profits by slashing the price tags on its products seemed to display ambiguous results. The electric vehicle giant not only marked a sales surge in the second quarter of the year but also managed to exceed Wall Street's net income forecasts. However, a discernible decline in the company's profit margins caused apprehension, and Tesla shares underwent a wavering ride in after-hours trading.
In the details of the financial records disclosed, Tesla, known for its line of electric vehicles, solar products, and energy storage solutions, posted a net income of $2.7 billion for the April-June quarter, registering a 20% growth over the previous year. Earnings per share followed the trend with an increment of 20%, reaching 78 cents, in line with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The revenue figures were equally impressive, showing a 47% jump to a substantial $24.93 billion.

SpaceX Competitor - Boeings Starliner Faces HUGE Delays
In a recent press conference, Boeing's Vice President and Starliner manager, Mark Nappi, announced a potential readiness of their spacecraft by early March. However, he emphasized that this doesn't guarantee a March launch. The forthcoming dates will be finalized in collaboration with NASA's Commercial Crew Program, the International Space Station (ISS), and United Launch Alliance (ULA).
The Starliner was initially set for a July 21 launch, intending to transport NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry "Butch" Wilmore to the ISS. But an unexpected twist came weeks before the launch when Boeing declared an indefinite postponement, following the emergence of two significant safety challenges. Since these setbacks, both Boeing and NASA have reportedly rectified the capsule’s safety issues.
Steve Stich, the head of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, conveyed that multiple independent review layers have been established to address and overcome these complications. One of the major concerns was related to the load capacity of Starliner’s trio of parachutes. Tests showed that their failure load limits were below expected, suggesting that if one parachute failed, the remaining duo might not slow the spacecraft adequately for its New Mexico landing.
