Supreme Court Docket & Judicial Backlash to Netanyahu

We are going to hear from Ilya about what happened last term besides Dobbs and what to expect from the Supreme Court.  This year’s big cases will be on affirmative action, limiting state courts influence in elections, and interstate commerce.  Ilya spoke on this podcast previously about free speech. Our second speaker is Eugene Kontorovich who is a Professor of International Law at George Mason’s Law School and works with the Kohelet Policy Forum on legal reforms related to Israel’s Supreme Court. Israel’s Supreme Court has been flexing its muscle lately and has rejected the Knesset’s laws that it feels are unreasonable including political compromises on the military draft as well as firing a cabinet minister that it viewed as unqualified because of previous legal troubles. We will hear from Eugene about Prime Minister Netanyahu’s proposed judicial reforms and the hysteria it has triggered in Israel’s legal community. How Should I Invest My Money?

Nobel Prize winner Myron Scholes and Elm Wealth's Victor Haghani discuss the Golden Rules of Investing.Victor Haghani is a former Salomon Brothers colleague of mine and one of the founders of Long-Term Capital Management. A decade ago Victor founded a wealth advisor, Elm Wealth, as an extension of managing his family office. I endorse Victor’s wealth management strategy that dynamically manages portfolios of low cost ETFs focused on delivering attractive risk-adjusted, after-tax returns for clients. You will hear directly from Vic about these ideas and you can learn more from his website elmwealth.com.Myron Scholes won the Nobel Prize for his contributions to options theory. This is just a tiny fraction of his many contributions to finance. Myron will speak today about the importance of diversification both across assets and time. Myron was an early advocate of low cost index funds and believes that you need to dynamically change your investment portfolio when market risk conditions change. Garett believes that the success of immigrants’ descendants is a function of the culture imbued from the old country. In addition, the immigrants social and cultural mores will affect America’s social mores as well, so be very careful who you let in. No Red Wave

We need to do a detailed postmortem of the Midterm elections. Our speaker is Henry Olsen who is the author of The Working-Class Republican: Ronald Reagan and the Return of the Blue-Collar Conservatism. Henry will explain why there was no red wave in an election despite the Republicans winning the national popular vote by 3% or 3.2 million votes. Henry will explain how the Republicans improved their voting share in very blue urban districts and very red rural districts which didn’t help Republicans win additional seats. We plan on going deep with the political analysis now that all the votes have been counted. Are You White?

Our speakers will be Dan Bouk, who is the Department Chair of History at Colgate University and the author of the new book called Democracy’s Data: The Hidden Stories in the US Census and How to Read Them.  Dan will speak about our ongoing governmental data collection to determine race, gender, and other personal information.  The search for these answers and ethnic classification informs us about who we are as a society. The downside is that these questions highlight differences in our national identity. Our second speaker is George Mason Law Professor David Bernstein who is the author of the book Classified: The Untold Story of Racial Classification in America. The answer to the question whether you are White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, or other has consequences. It can determine who gets a government contract, a job or is admitted to a select college. Should the government be in the racial classification business, and do government imposed racial classifications undermine our societal objective to live in a multi-racial society?
