Returning Civil Dialogue to Your Family & Friends
It would be hard to find a church community, group of friends, or family who haven't suffered from the breakdown of dialogue over the past couple of years. All across the country, family members are refusing to speak to one another, friends have blocked each other on social media, and people refuse to return to their churches.
It's hard to dream for peace, reconciliation, or redemption when there's so much conflict and misunderstanding. As we head into the holidays, when so many people are carrying the burden of fractured relationships, we wanted to bring someone who could help guide us through difficult relationships and bring empathy and dialogue back where it belongs.
Christy Vines is the President & CEO of Ideos, a Christian organization focused on engaging empathy and empathic intelligence in spaces of conflict, division and polarization. She is a California-based expert on issues at the intersection of faith, social/cultural polarization, and conflict transformation.
In addition to holding various leadership roles with the RAND Corporation, Institute for Global Engagement, and the American Security Project, her published articles and op-eds have appeared in outlets like the Washington Post, Religion News Service, Capital Commentary, and Christianity Today. She has a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and a B.A. in Sociology with a quantitative analysis emphasis.
On January 5th, Christy and her team at the Ideos Institute are releasing a new documentary film, Dialogue Lab: America. What happens when twelve Americans with wildly opposing viewpoints gather together to engage in empathy and dialogue? Go to nationdaldayofdialogue.com to sign up to view the film, and bring a film screening event to your family room, church, or small group of friends.

Ellie Holcomb - Fighting Words
There’s no escaping hardships in life. Nobody gets a hall pass on setbacks, conflict, heartache, or disappointment. How you respond, though, is a choice- it’s up to you. Certainly worrying and feeling overwhelmed are normal responses, but you don’t need to get stuck there.
Maybe you’ve been blessed to have some amazing role models who taught you how to turn your heart towards God with vulnerability, prayer, and faith. If not, that’s okay- it’s never too late to learn how. That’s why I’m always so encouraged to spend time with friends who mentor me in their understanding of God and faith, and why I love sharing them with you, too. This week, we’re bringing the bright light of Ellie Holcomb to the Dream Big Podcast to talk about her new book, a devotional called Fighting Words, that will be a gift to your life.
For eight years, Ellie Holcomb recorded and toured full-time with her husband's band, Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors, before stepping off the road when her first child was born. Her solo debut, As Sure As The Sun (2014), landed her a Top 10 hit on Christian radio with "The Broken Beautiful" and a GMA Dove Award for "New Artist of the Year." Her critically-acclaimed sophomore LP, Red Sea Road, followed in 2017. In subsequent years, Holcomb has released two children's books - each with a companion EP of original music written specifically for kids, the second of which earned her a Dove Award for "Children's Album of the Year," in 2020. This summer she released her third full-length solo project, Canyon, to much acclaim. "A deeper sorrow, a higher hope; to be broken is to be human," Ellie Holcomb says to sum up the content of her latest album. Holcomb most recently performed and interviewed on The TODAY Show with Amy Grant for the special FAITHFUL Project. She and her husband Drew Holcomb have also partnered with Tennessee Tourism for a campaign where they've also released two songs earlier this year. Last year, the Holcombs invited their fans into their home virtually nightly for their now-famed Kitchen Covers during the height of the pandemic.
Ellie announces the release of her first devotional book: Fighting Words - 100 Days of Speaking Truth into the Darkness (B&H Publishing), on October 15, 2021. Named after one of her hit songs, "Fighting Words," Holcomb has penned a journaling devotional book filled with encouraging, honest reflections and questions to help you process scripture. Fighting Words is a place where you can wrestle, respond to, and take hold of precious truths in God's Word to help you push back the lies that so often consume, distract, and destroy us.

Danielle Walker - Finding Health and Hope
When you’re going through something awful and tragic, it’s impossible to imagine the good parts that will come. You can’t see the resilience you’re building, the faith that you’re constructing, or the wrestling that turns into confident hope someday. But that’s how life works, especially when we choose to lean towards God during those difficult seasons.
Maybe you’re going through one of those difficult moments right now. If not, perhaps you’ll find yourself there at some point in the future. Regardless, we know how helpful it can be to hear someone else’s journey of pain, loss, and recovery, and how it can spur on hope inside of us. That’s why we wanted to hear about bestselling cookbook author Danielle Walker’s life.
Danielle Walker is a New York Times bestselling author (Against All Grain, Meals Made Simple, Celebrations, Eat What You Love, Food Saved Me) health advocate and self-trained chef. After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease at age 22 and suffering for many years, Danielle found health through dietary and lifestyle changes. Inspired by her own health journey, Danielle shares her gluten-free recipes on her blog as a beacon of hope for others. Her latest book, Food Saved Me: My Journey of Finding Health and Hope through the Power of Food, is now available.

Michael Todd - Crazy Faith
Anything bold you do in life requires an element of risk. People might not understand what you’re doing, or openly disagree. You might not know if it’s all going to work out- there’s risk involved.
But anything worth doing is worth taking those risks. The question is, what will you do with the uncertainty? Where will you put your trust and faith?
As pastor and author Mike Todd says, “That dream God has given you might seem crazy right now, but what seems crazy in one season will be counted as faith in another.”
This week we invited Mike Todd, the lead pastor of Transformation Church in Tulsa, OK on to the Dream Big Podcast. Mike and his wife, Natalie, are highly sought after speakers and leaders that have ministered and spoken in many churches and events, both domestically and internationally, all while leading Transformation Church where they reach over 5,000 people in physical attendance and over 20,000 people live online every week. Pastor Michael and Natalie live in Tulsa with four beautiful children—Isabella, Michael Jr., Ava, and Gia Todd.

It's always difficult this time of year to grasp how quickly the days move along. It seems like just a few weeks ago summer was winding down and school was starting. Now, we find ourselves suddenly thrust into a fast-paced race to the finish line.
But, there's another reality happening just under the surface. It's the season of Advent, and we can easily miss it.
What is Advent all about? With the temptation to get wrapped up in gift-buying, relatives to visit, and year-end work responsibilities, the primary invitation God gives us is to recognize and interact with his presence. He is doing something new, right now, in your everyday life.
INTRODUCING ADVENT WITH BOB GOFF
So, this year, we put together a unique digital course called Advent with Bob Goff. What is it?
Nine teaching videos with Bob through two themes: Expectant and Presence
Guided meditations and reflection questions you can use for personal reflection or as a discussion guide with your friends or family
Lifetime access to the content

Allison Trowbridge - Writing the Stories of Your Life
If you're like me, then you want the story of your life to make a big splash- a meaningful impact in the world. The most important part of that, of course, is the way you live your life. The other part is how you reflect on the life that you're living. I try to do that through the stories I tell.
If you want to make an impact with your words, then you're going to want to listen to today's new podcast episode and take a load of notes.
Allison Trowbridge is the founder and CEO of Copper (https://copperbooks.com), a platform using curated content to help people gather in meaningful community. She's also the host of the "Pub Date" podcast, where she interviews authors launching their books to market and gets the story behind the story they are sharing with the world. Allison published her book, “Twenty-Two: Letters to a Young Woman Searching for Meaning” in 2017 with HarperCollins while completing her MBA at Oxford’s Said Business School. She became obsessed with publishing after witnessing a handful of books ignite the global anti-slavery movement, where she worked for nearly a decade leading marketing, fundraising, and international campaigns.

Derwin Gray - Dreaming for Broken Barriers
It’s a uniquely challenging time to imagine a world without barriers, not to mention racial justice and peace. The conflict in our culture seems to get more palpable and explicit every day.
Let this week’s conversation with pastor, author, and former NFL player Derwin Gray be a seed of hope and a foundation for how we all move forward into compassion and grace.
Dr. Derwin L. Gray is the founding and lead pastor of Transformation Church, a multiethnic, multigenerational, mission-shaped community just south of Charlotte, North Carolina. He has written several books, most recently the bestselling The Good Life: What Jesus Teaches about Finding True Happiness. Gray and his wife Vicki have been married since 1992 and have two adult children.

The Dream Big Academy
Living a focused, engaged life of love, adventure, and impact shouldn't be a mystery.
It's what we're all wired for, it's what we all long for. But, it's not the norm. From all the places I've traveled to and the people I've met, I know that most people don't experience that kind of life. They feel...
Like they're missing out on a different life, a life that others seem to experience.
That it should've all just worked out by now, but it hasn't.
Frankly, like they're languishing- and this must be as good as it gets.
But, there's so much more...
That's why we started putting these digital courses together. I can't travel everywhere, and not everyone can travel to me. But, what if there was a way to share life together and walk through these simple ideas I've been learning?
Before, we've released these courses one at a time. Then we'd close the registration. But through the pandemic, we learned that a LOT of people want to keep growing, and they're looking for a framework they can trust.
So, we put them all together- 6 interactive digital courses. Two specifically designed to help you identify and unleash your big ambitions. One for budding authors. Another for speakers. A course for your family. A course for your career. With more coming in the future.
And, since we already have Bob Weekly as a monthly subscription for exclusive content, we threw that in there, too.
The Dream Big Academy is the place to go for people wanting to get serious about the shape of their lives.
I'd love for you to learn more- maybe even watch a short webinar we put together that goes into more detail.
