#349 Fundamentalists Are No Fun

When we started this podcast, we knew we'd get some things right and some things wrong and at some point Fundamental Christians would try to shut us down. Turns out we were right about the fundamentalist part. Now we're out here trying to push against fundamentalism from wherever it comes from.   Links & Sponsors: badchristiancon.com badchristianmedia.com thebcclub.com Blue Apron: blueapron.com/BADCHRISTIAN Tooth and Nail: "Skyline" by LOYALS on tour with Emery

#348 Podcasting as an Exercise in Thinking

On this episode, among many other things, Joey talks about an older man he knows using weed (illegally) to cope with pain instead of his prescribed drugs, and feeling guilty about it. We're having a blast doing this podcast;  it really is a privilege to be able to hang with our friends and process out loud. It's a bonus to know we've helped other people a find like-minded group although on the internet. It's kind of a win-win, so thanks to all you listeners for putting up with our dumb asses.   Links & Sponsors: badchristiancon.com badchristianmedia.com thebcclub.com MVMT: mvmt.com/BADCHRISTIAN Brooklinen: brooklinen.com code BADCHRISTIAN

#347 Author of "The Shack," Paul Young

William Paul Young had a fundamental, evangelical upbringing that included many false beliefs about God. That led to many questions the church isn’t typically good at entertaining or even allowing, but he couldn’t stop asking. After coming clean about a marital affair to his wife, a new process of learning began in which false notions of God were discarded, and he wrote The Shack to share his new revelation of God with his friends and family. Hear about Young’s love for God as well as his rejection of many doctrines that most evangelical churches would deem essential.   Links & Sponsors: badchristiancon.com badchristianmedia.com thebcclub.com Indochino: indochino.com code BADCHRISTIAN BeachBody: text BADCHRISTIAN to 303030

#346 Sad Day When We Can't Laugh at What We Find Hilarious

Dave Chapelle gave us a gift in a couple of holiday specials, we were treated to lots of joyous laughs. Isn't that just outright good? Some people are still upset for him not being politically correct or sensitive enough. We're going to start regulating laughter? We're getting back on track with our diet but that all ends at the BadChristianCon.com. Lastly, Matt has a whopper, something along the lines of kids never having to be thankful for their parents?   Links & Sponsors: badchristiancon.com badchristianmedia.com thebcclub.com MeUndies: meundies.com/BADCHRISTIAN

#345 Toby Might Stop Believing in God Because of BadChristian Hecklers

We are constantly changing in our faith, persistently holding on to personal experiences we've had, but many times, we come at potentially scary crossroads of doubt. Joey is scared of religion scarring his kids, and Matt thinks it's crazy when parents marvel at how different their kids' personalities are.   Links & Sponsors: badchristiancon.com badchristianmedia.com thebcclub.com Stamps.com: stamps.com code BADCHRISTIAN Blue Apron: blueapron.com/BADCHRISTIAN

#343 Chad Johnson: Taking Risks at Ego's Cost

Our friend Chad Johnson came on today to talk about his new book One Thousand Risks, and they talk death after his dad passed away this weekend. Before that, Matt gets on a rant about how we're messing up our kids' lives by putting them online: i.e. the bullied kid whose video went viral this past week when his mom posted it to the public.   Links & Sponsors: badchristiancon.com badchristianmedia.com thebcclub.com ProFlowers: proflowers.com code BADCHRISTIAN Naturebox: naturebox.com/BADCHRISTIAN

#342 Greg Surratt: Founding Pastor of Seacoast Church and Joey's Boss

Greg Surratt leads one of the largest churches in the world that influences churches worldwide. The question still stands, why does he let Joey do The BadChristian Podcast? We talk about this and bring to the table the many complaints we've articulated on this podcast about pastors, moral failures, and mega-church culture.   Links & Sponsors: badchristiancon.com badchristianmedia.com thebcclub.com MVMT: mvmt.com/BCPOD Tooth and Nail Christmas Sales: solidstate.merchnow.com toothandnailrecords.merchnow.com gospelsong.merchnow.com bec.merchnow.com

#341 Greg Boyd: Moving from Calvinism to Open Theism

Author of "The Myth of a Christian Nation" and founder of ReKnew.org answers some of Matt and Toby's questions about what Open Theism's believes about God differently from Calvinism and Arminianism. We talk a lot about the omniscience of God and predestination. He also helps explain the problem with the Calvinistic view of Christians as The Elect.   Links & Sponsors: badchristiancon.com badchristianmedia.com thebcclub.com Casper: casper.com/BCPOD Hubble: hubblecontacts.com Indochino: indochino.com code BADCHRISTIAN

#340 BadChristian Con Broke Twitter This Weekend

There was an ugly and embarrassing thread on Twitter this weekend. Many of you observed it, and many participated in it. It was primarily in regards to the inclusion of Preston Sprinkle at BadChristian Con. Some feel that he is a bigot and his views are tantamount to violence and that BC is implicated by giving him the stage.    I (Matt) think it's a tragic look and insight into the negative side of a text-based, hyper-connected platform like twitter.  In order to try to rectify that, we have invited people from both sides of the argument to see if the vitriol is real, or just something that happens when we are behind our keyboards.      The guests today are BC Club members Adrian and Tierney, who were defending BC and also Stacey Midge who was a vocal opponent to BC's platform.   Links & Sponsors: badchristiancon.com badchristianmedia.com thebcclub.com Honey: joinhoney.com/BADCHRISTIAN Wonderbly: wonderbly.com code BCPOD Stamps.com: stamps.com code BADCHRISTIAN
