Here I am trying to get some easy ZZZ's in January when there is no racing going on and the next thing I know I receive a Whatsapp message from Benji at 3 in the morning and my phone is blowing up once I wake up later because Marc Hirschi, the Swiss Phenom, has had his contract terminated with Team DSM (formerly known as Sunweb) on January 5th. No reason has been given for his contract being terminated by either side, nor any other team confirmed as his next team. All very odd but somewhat in keeping with the way Team DSM has operated the last few years. The news broke today that Mark Cavendish has signed a one year deal at Deceuninck-Quickstep for 2021, meaning that he will remain in World Tour for at least another year. Benji and Lanterne deep dive into the Tour de France 2021 route, which was announced during the last week of the Vuelta a Espana. We love the increase in flat time trial kilometres, wish there was more of a queen stage, but overall think it is a better parcours than in 2020.
