A historic day for the Tour de France. Whilst the mountains may have been less exciting than we anticipated, this stage will go down as one of the greatest in Tour de France history. Tour de France Stage 16, straight out of the rest day, was set for a breakaway and maybe some intermediate sprint shenanigans if Bora felt up to it. The Giro Rosa is now in full swing and it was the usual suspects contesting for stage honours in stages 2 and 3.
