#74: Your Porn Pattern

You may or may not fully realize this, but you have patterns. So much of what we do on a day to day is in autopilot mode. In fact, studies estimate that 95% of the thoughts we have are the same as the previous day! We're creatures of habit. And this is absolutely the case with the porn habit. #73: Make Your Enemy Your Friend

Back a couple episodes ago, we looked at three "mistakes" that I was making for many years in my pursuit to be free from porn. And I believe that these are very common mistakes that so many guys are making right now, possibly including yourself. In the previous episode we drove a bit deeper into the first mistake that I was making, which was tracking my streaks rather than my wins. And in this episode we're going to dive a bit deeper and get a little more practical around the second mistake that I was making. This second mistake that we're going to dive into today is viewing the urge to watch porn as an enemy, rather than as a friend simply trying to help. Now, you may not even be fully aware of how you SEE that urge. You may not even be THINKING about how you THINK about your struggle! I never did. It never dawned on me to explore how I VIEWED that desire within me. But this is absolutely huge to explore for yourself, because how you view your desire for porn will directly determine how you HANDLE and RESPOND to that desire when it hits you. The way you see your desire for porn is your internal roadmap, your automatic response, to how you will handle that urge when it hits you, and whether that response is an effective strategy, or an ineffective strategy. This is why our perspective on our struggle is not only essential, it will significantly (if not absolutely) determine whether or not you will achieve freedom, and how QUICKLY you will start experiencing it. This is why it's so important to examine and discuss your PERSPECTIVE, and how you view your desire for porn. In this episode we're going to discuss why viewing this struggle as an enemy, rather than as a friend, hindered my progress rather than helped it. #71: Don't Make These Three Mistakes

When trying to stop watching porn, there are a few default habits that we tend to fall into, ways of going about trying to pursue freedom. We usually don't question the approach we're taking. We just start doing what seems to make the most sense. And if we're not seeing results, we figure we just have to try harder. Back in episode 41, we discovered that when it comes to HOW to pursue freedom from porn, what appears "obvious" is often not the case. We sort of default our way into the HOW, not realizing that the default, common sense way of doing it may actually not be the most effective. And actually, the common sense way can actually hinder our progress. This is what I gradually discovered when I finally started experiencing the exhilarating freedom that I didn't know was possible. When I shifted my approach, freedom came not be trying harder, but by doing things differently. As I discovered a different way to take steps towards freedom, there were three specific things that I had gotten in the habit of doing previously. They seemed to make perfect sense, but I started to see that they were not helping me. They may have actually been part of the reason WHY I had been experiencing freedom in the first place. In this episode, we're going to look at each of these three "mistakes" that I made, and that I think most guys are currently making as well. And most importantly, we'll discuss what you can start doing INSTEAD, that will help you finally start to gain some serious traction. #70: Perform the Pause, Clarify the Cause

In the last episode, we looked at the barriers in your life, those internal obstacles that seem to block you from living in true freedom, and becoming more of the man you truly want to be. We uncovered how those barriers are actually difficult emotions that you run up against in the moment. Let's recap briefly, and then we're going to take it a step further, and discuss the "How." We're going to get very practical, and look at some actionable, concrete things that you can DO, both in the moment when you are feeling that intense feeling, and a quick daily tool that you can practice in ADVANCE, that will help you take the necessary steps when you are IN that intense moment. Those obstacles of difficult feelings that arise in the moment, are actually where your growth and progress BEGIN. In other words, they are not barriers, they are doorways. Those difficult feelings are your frontiers. And if you can learn the skill of moving through those difficult emotions, on the other side is that vision of the man you truly want to be.
