Bullies, mean girls,  and creating an environment of safety, not judgment

Mean girls are not just in the movies. Today, Diane and Elizabeth talk about bullies, in particular mean girls. Our culture tolerates a level of speech towards one another that we have never seen before, especially online. It's everywhere, from prominent leaders to our families and children. The culture our children are navigating through is tricky, and the method of killing them with kindness doesn't always work. Diane and Elizabeth share some wisdom about what to do if your daughter is facing a mean girl. What does it look like to follow Christ and also draw boundaries? How do we teach our daughters to hold space for empathy so they can see that there is a story behind each mean girl? And finally, how can we teach our daughters to forgive the mean girl or bully even if repairing the relationship isn't possible? We hope this conversation today will help you navigate the problematic relationships that your daughters will encounter at some point. The whole crew is here today to answer more of your thoughtful questions. We cover topics like what to do when your kids test the boundaries with grandparents or other caregivers. We tease out some tricky elements like the parent's role and the grandparent's role in these situations. We also answer the question, how do we deal with catastrophic fears in parenting? We dive into the root of fears and turn to the Bible for wisdom about what God says about anxiety and our troubles. We differentiate concerns from true evil and learn how to listen and support a friend when fears arise. The last topic we cover today is homeschooling. We talk about the good and the complex parts of homeschooling, practical ways to homeschool multiple kids at once, and how setting your expectations can make or break your school year. Miscarriage, loss, and the aftermath (Interview with Ryan and Annie Miller)

In today's show, we have the privilege of talking to a beautiful couple, our friends Ryan and Annie Miller, about a challenging and sensitive subject. Ryan and Annie started a non-profit called Share the Struggle. Share The Struggle is a non-profit organization that seeks to showcase God's redemptive power through media. This ministry began out of a profoundly sorrowful experience of the miscarriage of their first baby. As they walked through this trauma, it became clear that so many couples were silently grieving this same loss. They found that this trauma was not being talked about nearly enough, even though 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage, leaving many couples suffering alone, especially women. Today's conversation is raw and super helpful if you have experienced a miscarriage or if you know someone who has. We go into practical help, like, things you do not want to say to someone going through a miscarriage as well as what words and actions are beneficial. We are so grateful for our friends and their ministry and all the tools they provide. We know this subject is deeply felt by many, and we hope this conversation brings help and healing. Depression, anxiety, praying over our children, and the transition from kids to teens (Q+R)

In today's show, we respond to some of your great questions. We cover praying over your children, what it looks like, and what it doesn't look like. We discuss how easy it can be to use prayer to manipulate our children into the version we hope to see more of in them. We dive into some helpful and practical tips on praying over our children that you can start doing today! The second question we respond to is connected to the first because so much of parenting comes down to the connection between God and our children, the relationship between parents and their children, and sibling to sibling, to name a few. We talk about practicing truth and love with our kids to build trust and respect in our connection with them. We explore the difference between discipline and punishment and why being willing to be the bad guy sometimes as a parent is essential. Also, some funny stories in today's show illustrate our responses to these excellent questions. We hope you laugh and learn and find room for grace as you practice these tips in your families. Emotional neglect, being reparented and how to get what we need most

Today we cover the critical topic of not getting what we need as we are growing up. We cover emotional neglect, trauma, and how we recover. We talk through what happens when others accept us. Acceptance of who you are, acceptance of your idiosyncrasies, your bents, your personality. Then we cover focused attention and the idea that maybe you never received the needed attention, but God is waiting and can’t wait to give you all of his. We also cover how God gives us direction and especially moral guidance as we slow down long enough to listen, and lastly, we discuss how God truly protects us. Enjoy! The four ways are:1. Acceptance2. Focused attention3. Guidance4. Measuring up, our mental committee, I should’s, the impossible mother, and shepherding our homes

Today's show talks about five ways moms are called to be shepherds in their homes. We define what a Shepherd is and what it looks like for moms of all ages. Our conversation circles around some vital elements like mom guilt, God's sovereignty, guarding what God has entrusted to you, pursuing wholeness, and continuing to grow in each stage of motherhood. As moms, it is easy to feel like we have to do this all perfectly, and if we don't, we are messing up our children. Still, we invite you into this conversation today to pause and consider a different perspective of walking toward transformation instead of perfection. It's a journey of holding your kid's hands as you walk closer to your Father in heaven and bringing your children along the walk. The five steps we discuss today are trusting in the sovereign God, Heeding the shepherd's call, Embracing obscurity, pursuing an integral life, and cultivating leadership competency. We hope you enjoy this episode today!Follow us on Instagram:@intentional_parents@brook_mosser@Emosser@philmcomer@dianewcomer FREE TEXT Message Daily Devotional 👇🏼 https://intentional.flocknote.com Grab a copy of our book: Raising Passionate Jesus Followers (Now available in audiobook!)https://amzn.to/3ReOgc4 Website: intentionalparents.org Join our Legacy Builders: https://www.intentionalparents.org/donate-index-impact Blog: https://www.intentionalparents./blog GET: The Intentional Film Serieshttps://www.intentionalparents.org/film-series The Intentional Motherhood Retreathttps://www.intentionalparents.org/motherhood-retreat
