I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let's get started! Noel: Hi Dr. Cabral, I'm a huge fan of all you teach and share - thank you!!! I've collected 5 brief questions below, and I totally understand if you cannot address them all. : )1) Zinc -- Are there any forms of zinc that do not cause nausea? Or that cause less nausea than others? Some people avoid it, even with food due to the association. 2) Mimosa Pudica seed -- What does this bind or "scrub" exactly?You've mentioned MPS, but I don't believe I heard you say what it is scrubbing or removing. 3) What are your thoughts about using topical iodine for skin manifestations, such as basal cell carcinoma or even NOT BSC?Is clear iodine just as effective, like for the face? How about frankincense oil for a similar purpose? 4) Ionic foot baths -- do you find these helpful for heavy metal detox? 5) Far Infra-red Sauna -- Does one need to sweat for these to support heavy metal detox? Is it still beneficial to use FIR if one is not using enough heat or time to sweat? Thank you! I'm so grateful for all you share!: ) Noel COD: Hi Dr. Cabral, a few years back I had a grand Mal seizure (5 minutes long around noon the day after a night out) for the first time at the age of 22, and ended up having 3 in the space of 3 months total, all the same as the first type. No history of it in my family, MRI and eeg test we're clear, and saw 2 separate neurologists who put my seizure trigger down to alochol+ a night out, as that was the only common denominator, so they diagnosed me with epilepsy, put me on keppra 2x a day which I've been on for almost 3 years. I've had more intense nights out before and after any seizure and this has never happened. Having been on meds almost 3 years now, I saw a nautropath who mentioned that alochol and a night out is not enough to make it happen. I wanted to know your opinion, as of recent I've been thinking of coming off the meds, and question if I should even be on this medicine or if I even have epilepsy? (Before any action I will discuss with my neurologist but Im intrigued to know your thoughts) Lin: Hi Dr Cabral, I felt Quite well before I got 1/2 a cc of Restalyne injected into a small wrinkle in my nasal l. fold by a plastic surgeon 7 months ago. After the injection I immediately got a mild case of hives and felt a tingling/ hives sensation all over the skin in my body. My knees also feel swollen too. They crack when I bend. ( I've never experienced this). Should I continue to work on gut inflammation which I have a little leaky gut (but no h pylori or parasites) or look at inflammation labs? What do you recommend? Selina: Hi Doctor Cabral, I loved your series of podcasts about Ayurveda last year and I was wondering if you could maybe do a podcast about most common 'mixed' Ayurveda body types? For example, I'm kapha/vata: I'm pear-shaped and it's hard for me to lose weight. But on the other hand, my joints are prominent, wrists and ankles are super thin, my skin dry/rough and I'm always cold. So I'm very confused how to eat, work out, etc. as these two body types often get totally different lifestyle advice. Can't wait to hear your thoughts about this. Thank you so much in advance! Selina Darren: Hey Dr Cabral. Hope all is well with you and your family. If I remember correctly, you recommend limiting liquid consumption at night to facilitate uninterrupted sleep. However, when I meet the daily water consumption requirements before 7 pm, and go to bed, I still get up at least twice to go urinate. And it's a lot. Is it because even though you limit water there's still fluid there carrying out the necessary processes and eliminating waste? Or is there potentially something wrong? I'm a male in early 30's, fit vata pitta type. Or is the size of one's bladder a factor here? 1541: Painful Cysts, Infradian Rhythm, Periods Too Far Apart, Inflamed Organs, Sensitive Hearing/ Misophonia (HouseCall)
Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Jill: Hi, Dr. Cabral! I am so grateful to have found you and your invaluable resources! I stopped taking hormonal birth control approx 18 mos ago after using it for 10 yrs. Cycle returned normally, but within 2 mos, I began having breakouts on my face and back which have gotten worse. I have consistent painful cysts just under my cheek bones and generally clogged pores on my forehead/chin, too. Sometimes slight improvement for a few days just after my period, but fairly relentless. Never had breakouts before starting/while taking BC. Also have a day or two of slight headache/brain fog/low mood usually just before my period, I think. Other than lowered confidence and libido due to acne, I feel good/balanced mentally and physically.About me...I am 33, 5'3/consistent 113lbs, I think pitta/vatta body type. Have always had a serious appetite/fast metabolism and struggle to make it between meals w/o a snack. Never snack after dinner and do a 12hr overnight fast. Typically 2 bowel movements/day and no digestive issues as long as I pay attention to food combining/timing. I do a fasted CrossFit workout 3-4 days/week at 5:00 am and yoga 1-2 days/week. Barely get 7 hrs of sleep Su-R (due to work/workout schedule, working to improve!) and get 7-8.5 hrs F-Sa. Recently swapped from coffee to matcha. Try to avoid dairy, gluten, refined sugar, soy, and unhealthy oils M-F with a few cheats on the weekend. Rarely drink aIcohol. I have a daily smoothie w/DNS and supplement with omega-3, bone broth, and a berries/greens probiotic/digestive enzyme blend. I took Vit C and Zinc for a period and it may have helped, but skin may have worsened since starting the probiotic. Not 100% sure! I practice good facial hygeine with a fairly clean salicylic acid-based acne treatment kit. I am way overdue for PCP, OBGYN, & dentist visits, so I will schedule these. I am also planning my first 21-day detox w/in the next 2 mos. If it doesn't solve the problem, what should I do next? I would love to hear your ideal recommendation, and also a more budget conscious alternative. Thank you so much!Jill Cynthia: I'm a 41 yo female and I've been reading Alisa Vitti's new book about female hormones. In this book she suggests that women should eat, work out and basically plan their whole life not according to the 24-hour circadian rhythm, but a 28-day infradian rhythm. This means changing the way you eat, exercise work, social interactions, etc. almost every week. I really love working out and intermittent fasting every day, but she says this is basically destroying my hormones.. What do you think about that? Thanks a million for your answer! C. Carolina: Dear doctor Cabral, I'm a fit, happy and healthy 43 year old woman. My only heath problem is that my periods are super far apart. I get one every 40-50 days.I work out (moderate-pace resistance training and walk 15.000 steps) 6 days a week and I do 16:8 intermittent fasting for about 5-6 days as well. I eat super healthy, organic and mostly vegan food.I really feel and look amazing, people always think I'm in my early 30s :) But I've read that this way of life might be the reason my period is all messed up.I really don't want to give up training because it's not super intense and I don't want to lose my muscle mass as I'm getting older.And according to my Oura ring, I sleep and have much higher HRV when I'm fasting.So what would you suggest for me to change in order regulate my female hormones? I would really like to still keep my workouts and IF fasting, just because I feel so good doing them. But in the end, I've been listening to your podcast for 3 years now, I trust you fully and I will follow your advise, whatever it is.Thanks for all you do! Much love, Carolina Corrie: Hello, For almost 8 years I've been experiencing various symptoms that affect all systems in my body. Multiple food intolerances, medication intolerances that cause me to feel either dizzy, heart races, headaches, hand tremors, abdominal bloating and gas, pelvic pain, blood in stool, hypoglycemia( pre diabetic A1C 5.7), constipation, reflux and heart burn, fatigue, achy muscles, bad breath, constant urination, TMJ discomfort. I've seen over 50 doctors, from specialists to holistic care, emergency room physicians etc. I have been diagnosed with SIBO, endometriosis, colitis and fructose malabsorption but non of the treatments have resolved any of the above symptoms. I've had functional medicines labs/test which only shows fat in my stool, low vitamin d and b, and a bacteria in my urine that shows I do not break down carbohydrates. At one point I have eliminated the foods that caused symptoms but then I not only lost 50lbs I was not keeping on any weight from the foods I was able to tolerate. Now I've gained all my weight back and more and I am intolerant to almost all foods and even feel dizzy drinking water. I can't eat any fruit because I get dizzy, sweet potatoes oats pasta quinoa drop my sugar. Bread makes my heart race. I have to eat every 2 hours. My muscles shake after exercise Sometimes my heart rate does not increase with exercise. My heart rate can be 58 at rest. Ive had multiple test done MRI pancreas,brain, EKG, EMG, EEG, CT scans of abdomen and pelvis, glucose intolerance test which dropped my sugar to 52 after an hour, ultrasound of abdominal organs, urine test, nuclear med scans to see if I have a dumping syndrome or gallbladder problems, cytograms , etc all test negative. I went to NYU Dysautonomia center and tested negative for those test. I'm told I'm a medical mystery. To stop seeing doctors and practice tai chi. That it's all related to anxiety so to see a therapist. Psycho somatic. I had a body scan that's used for people in NASA and it shows I have a parasite, bladder issues, intestinal problems. Can you please help? Corrie Ryan: I have a friend with really sensitive hearing and things like chewing and other background noises can really aggravate her. She says it is misophonia, which seems to fit the symptoms, but from a FM perspective is obviously just a name. Any insight into potential imbalances or root causes for misophonia? Thank you! What are your thoughts on the trend of women booking post pregnancy makeovers from cosmetic surgeons while still in early stages of pregnancy? Shouldn't they explore options of safe exercise, healthy nutrition and try working to get their so-called ideal body or is it really a non-issue and it's okay many are now going that route to get the "celeb" body weeks after giving birth? My friend is considering to do it and I really want to tell her try other options but the procedure and results are so appealing for them and I am not sure of longterm or potential health risk to properly caution her. I have one that was discovered last year but was told it has been there for around 30 years.Because of the size and the fear of damaging more nerves the surgeon at Brigham and women's was only able removed part of the tumor. The remaining part is about 4cm by 5cm located at L5 to S2. With no feelings/numbness on the left side of it and down the left leg. Currently I am trying acupuncture once a month and just purchased a infrared sauna and I've been doing 21 to 28 day detoxes 2X a year for the past 10 years. Carmen: Is it true that blending vegetables and fruits leads to a massive loss of both nutrients and fibre given the oxidation? Simon: Hello Dr Stephen 'Smoothie King' Cabral! How about a smoothie masterclass'? I have made smothies my go breakfast but I have so many questions, even after listening to all the related podcasts and your book. I am a hard gainer (Vata/Pita) with a large apetite and health goals of: lean muscle gain, longevity and healing my gut (I am half way through your CBO gut protocols). My questions are:I need to add quite a bit of fat (coconut cream, avocado, eggs, nuts or MCT oil) or carbs/fibre (banana, cauliflower, oats) or protien (eggs) to my shakes to make them satiating and get me through to lunch (2-3hr+). Does adding too much fat/fibre/protein make them harder to digest and reduce the benefits of having a smoothie, or is this still optimal as long as it is all blended?Are there downsides (for digestion) to putting too many different ingredients in a smoothie? Any food combinations to avoid ? Or does blending make this all ok? At present I have 8-15 ingredients, including: coconut milk, fruit: 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup blueberries + strawberries; vegies/fiber: cooked cauliflower, raw spinach; protein: 2 eggs, collagen protien and/or hemp protien; fats: coconut cream or MCT oil, avocado, almonds or coconut flesh; spices: cinnamon, ginger, turmeric! And even cooked rice or cold porrige when I need to fuel an endurance workout. Too much? Should I stick to larger amounts of fewer ingredients or is a diverse mix ok?If i am already well hydrated (12+oz water upon waking and ongoing through day) do I need to add so much extra water to my smoothie? Are there benefits to diluting my smoothie beyond hydration and weight loss (filling up on water)?Why sip the shake over an hour?
