Self Portraits As Other People
Self Portraits as Other People is a hyper-creative, psycho-active variety show wherein multidimensional artist, filmmaker, voice-actor, and wordsmyth The Ungoogleable Michaelangelo engages his guests in social storytelling to mindfully and artfully investigate where the limits of language meet the fringes of Reality. Praise The Lore!
The show intrepidly treads the terrain of the trickster, constantly defying, redefining, and refining itself. Each episode is its own schizovereign entity, but there are themes that are built upon from pod to pod--themes like Consciousness and the Bicameral Mind, Divination, Folklore, Daemonic reality, Magic, Language, Psychedelics, Creativity, Dreams, Art, Poetry, Cinema, Ecology, literature, Animism, Precognition, Shamanism, and so on. Each episode is preceded by an intricately sound-scaped introduction that offers the invisible listener a lens through which to view the conversation that is to follow, along with otherwise cosmic, comedic, and contemplative content.
The shownotes offer hyperlinked rabbitholes that will allow you to dig deeper into wonderlands touched upon on air. Occasionally a solo pod is bath-bombed into the stream to showcase stand-alone story fragments that have escaped from the dark archives of never before released materials, or from the vaults of "Patreon-only".
Right from the start, SPAOP wasted no time jumping off the deep end into the highlands, linguistically levitating somewhere between the fatherland and the mothership, where laughing angels drink from the crying well and the cosmic giggle reflects its cracked smile on the surface of the shattered mirror-pool. If you're new here, and are wondering where to start, you are invited to listen in any order. Start at the last episode for the most cutting edge, newest now, and track back from there to witness the devolution, or start at the beginning and work your way up to the present, or pick a pod with a title & description that piques your curiosity. The choice is yours. We'd love to hear from you, so don't hesitate to reach out, and/or leave a review.

Erik Davis - GhostWriting at the Crossroads
(((Headphones MANDATORY for optimal enjoyment)))
After ep. 6 w/ Stuart Davis & his mantic antics, you probably thought you’d never encounter another esoteric Davis on this show. But you were wrong because the esoteric Erik Davis is in the (haunted) house!
Erik is a prolific writer, speaker, cultural critic & social analyst, best known for his books TechGnosis, High Weirdness, Nomad Codes, and Led Zeppelin’s Led Zeppelin IV. He conducted Terence Mckenna’s final interview, and was featured in the documentary DMT: The Spirit Molecule as well the recent A Glitch In The Matrix.
Equipped with an esemplastic scholastic mind, and a creative, psychedelic soul, he walks a tightrope between the academic and the daemonic.
This episode will be especially interesting for our fellow word-workers, but even if you don’t identify as a writer, we all, inevitably, work with words, whether we want to or not. It’s too late in the game to turn back, go mute, or become illiterate (especially YOU, who are at this very moment reviving my phantom voice by scanning these marks with your eyes).
This episode is a portrait of a writer at the crossroads, adapting to a changing media landscape, and the shifting mindfield that comes with it.

Ramin Nazer - DeepFake BlackFace
(((Headphones MANDATORY for optimal enjoyment)))
Everybody loves Ramin. In my humble o’pineal, his creations deserve a Best Of The Web award.
Why can’t YOU be more like Ramin?
You’ve seen him tell an animated tale of timeline confusion on his way back from Dee EmTeeness on “Tales From The Trip” (DMTv).
You’re already familiar with his podcast the Rainbow Brainskull Hour, and OF COURSE you know his colorful artworks, about which you‘ll hear me literally (literally) sing their praises during the intro.
I remind him of Robin Williams, and I think he’s a real life Aladdin (probably just because he’s of Persian persuasion, and I like to genieralize).
Whenever we, infinity’s mercurial PR men, rub our magic lamps together, our light-bulbed brain-noodles tend to whackadoodle all over the place, because neither of us are “straight men” (in the comedic sense--NO HOMO!) (except Sapiens). (not that there’s anything wrong with that!)
In effect this is probably the least disciplined SPAOP conversation exploration to date. (not that there’s anything wrong with that!)
We invite you to befriend what offends you, and to meet us at the TRIGGER WARNING sign on the intersection of irreverance and revelation, in the hope that this episode will make you “trigger happy”.
I also appeared (for a 2nd time) on his pod, so be sure to check that out as well!

Dave Oshana - The BloodsDream of the Ancestors
(((Headphones recommended for optimal enjoyment)))
In the year 2000 Dave became enlightened. Notice what comes up at the mention of the e-word. R u triggered? Curious? Eye-rolling?
Set aside any preconceived notions U might have about enlightenment, or what an enlightened person might be like. The way Dave describes it is that he simply woke up one morning & no longer felt like Dave, like the Dave he had, up to that moment, identified as. He woke up from Dave, and found himself to be a Whole Host of Sensations (WHoS Dave?) just… like… an embodied being with lots of bodily sensations that communicated to "him" from the depths of that being. There was a light too, though he didn’t conceptualize it. Several months later he began using the term “transmission” to help explain the phenomena that occurred when others had contact w/ him. He now shares the “Enlightenment Transmission” w/ people around the world, inspiring them to be their authentic selves. U may have heard about Dave Oshana on ep 7. He's the guru-type guy Jasun Horsley works w/ & writes about. In one of his blogs, JaHo once warned: “If you value your identity, you will stay away from Dave Oshana.”

Mike Brancatelli - The TricksterEquality of InnerSpace
(((Headphones recommended for optimal enjoyment)))
Mike is the host of the MikeAdelic Podcast. He also does the best Alan Watts impression around, which I incorporated into this episode's intro!
We talk about Mike’s recent venture into psilocyberspace, where he encountered an unspeakable transformational display, a "server farm", dazzling in its trickstery quality, and difficult to put one’s finger on. Confronting this innerspace—the life-force perceived beyond thought-forms—prompts one to find new ways to engage and relate with the world and Oneself. We talk about how to circumnavigate this ungraspable force in order to channel it into expression against all odds and oddness. Lots of compensatory hand gestures ensue where words fall short.

Esther Jacobs - Life in Permanent Beta
(((Headphones recommended for optimal enjoyment)))
Esther Jacobs is an intrepid, location-independent entrepreneur. She's traveled to over 100 countries, speaks 7 languages, was "fired" from her country, and feels at home anywhere in the world. She writes books, and teaches others how to write books using her unique reverse writing technique. She was knighted in the Dutch order, and participated in the Dutch version of Survivor. She's also my big sister! Using her life story as our foundation, we talk about creatively overcoming obstacles, energy management, dream guidance, the wisdom & whispers of the body, groupthink vs individualism, control vs. surrender, the difference between travelers & tourists, surreality TV, past lives, and more.
In Part 2 of our conversation--available exclusively on Patreon--we compare spiritual spider stories, recount our misadventures in the Amazon, where we imbibed strange potions with a Yagua shaman, and Esther shares how remote Peyote buttons serenaded her, without ever having ingested them.

Jasun Horsley - Crucial Fictions & Lucid Trauma
Jasun Horsley is a sharp but subtle thinker who describes himself as "an existential detective in chronic confession mode". A prolific writer, he has published countless books, blog posts, & articles. He also hosts The Liminalist podcast, where we did a follow-up conversation. Initially reluctant, a series of uncanny coincidences lured me deeper into his realm, where I discovered a treasure trove of parallel processes, insights, & reflections. In this episode we cast a sobering glance at the potentially dissociative perils of visionary experiences & the integrative appeal of trauma as the gateway to becoming fully incarnated.

Stuart Davis - The Mantic Antics of a Twisted Mystic
Stuart Davis is a multimedia artist w/ a brilliant madcap mind. 10 years ago, while meditating during a fever, he was visited by an 8ft tall mantis entity, opening up a sync-holy vortex & setting a series of synchronicities in motion. These uncanny occurances inspired a forthcoming film called "Mant1s". He's also the creator of a meditative language called IS, published the essay "ET Presence & The Forfeiture of Human Sovereignty", & just launched his podcast Aliens & Artists. We talk about the multiplicity of identity, the influence of non-human intelligences on art (& vice versa), & more. Loga, the oneironaut from ep1--the one w/ the pineal tumor & a choir of selves presided over by a tumultuous trickster--makes a brief cameo appearance.

Morgan Sorne - Resourceful Sorcery
(Headphone recommended for optimal immersion in the intro)
Morgan Sorne is a multi-dimensional storyteller, visual artist, and composer. We talk about self-mythologization, embodying archetypal charisma, and how taking fictional liberties invites critical thinking and imagination. We gab about the influence of dream, deep listening, and giving voice to forces both earthly and otherworldly. We riff on modular storytelling, world-building, song-drawings, and the "DIY-VR" quality of composing with picture perfect pitch. Oh, and the Florida Man archetype.

The Pandemic as Societal Tuning Fork in the Road
(Headphones)
I'm taking this opportunity to go solo to share some musings, perspectives, & reflections on the current situation by sending a trippy lil broadcast from my cozy little quarantine to yours. I hope it puts a smile on your face & thoughts in your mind, & that this blend of cosmic, comedic, & contemplative content is a welcome distraction into the heartland. At any rate, you’ll learn a few (bad) words in Dutch.
Originally, I just wanted to share a short, sound-scaped story called “The Man in the Jungle” with you (previously only available on my Patreon page) in order to cross-reference my recent appearances on the Third Eye Drops podcast and The Cosmic Nod podcast—both of which were heavily Ayahuasca themed—just like the story. But then the apocalypse started, so I thought why not ponder & pander to the pandemic theme for a few bars, & tie it in to the tale by riffing on the shipibo-placebo model of healing through the imagination. So here’s all of that, & more. You'd be missing out, but if you wanna skip straight to the story—it starts about 21 minutes in.
I’ll be back soon with episode 5, featuring multi-dimensional artist & musician Morgan Sorne. I suggest you start familiarizing yourself with his work before the next episode drops, starting here.
Until then, stay safe & stay the hell away from each other! ;-)

Travis Puntarelli - Current Channels & Rivers of Song
This episode is an exploration of song (aka "space-craft") as a tool with which to navigate landscapes and mindscapes, and as a means through which to gain entranced entrance into the mystic/mythic dimensions of the psyche. Travis is a true troubador, and together we explore the world of songcrafting, lyricism, the realms of fae, and the graceful race of ugly goblins that dance around in his mind.
