Episode #7 - Jackson Mississippi Activist Brooke Floyd Discusses The Water Crisis

Jackson, Mississippi Activist Brooke Floyd took time out of schedule to  educate us on what is exactly happening with the Water Crisis. During  the discussion Brooke talks about the two organizations (Jackson Peoples  Assembly, and People Advocacy Institute) that she works with two serve  the community of Jackson. Floyd gives a detailed, historic account on  how systematic racism has plagued the citizens on Jackson. As well as  how systematic racism has contributed in the Water Crisis. Brooke Floyd  also educates us on Brett Farve scamming the state of Mississippi.    About The Peoples Assembly of Jackson What is a People’s Assembly? A People’s Assembly is exactly how it sounds – an assembly or coming  together of community members to share ideas about the city and let the  city know what matters to us as residents.  People’s Assemblies (PAs)  happen all over the world.  Some are very large and take on national  issues.  Some, like ours in Jackson, are focused on local issues.  One  of the first PAs took place in Lowndes County, Alabama in the 1960s and  there have been a number of assemblies in Jackson and throughout the  south ever since. Initiated by the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement in  coalition with Jackson residents and community groups, PAs are where  community members make their voices heard.  What kind of city do you  want to live in?  What can we do together to make Jackson a great place  to live, work and worship?  Join us and let us dream and work together.      https://jxnpeoplesassembly.org   About The Peoples Advocacy Institute    The People’s Advocacy Institute (PAI) is a non-profit community  resource, training and capacity-building incubator for transformation  justice in the South. PAI serves as a vehicle for true democracy,  harnessing the collective wisdom of southern communities that have been  directly impacted by a divestment from key community systems such as  mass criminalization and incarceration and economic inequality. By  engaging communities in electoral justice efforts, People's Assemblies,  Alternatives to Incarceration Initiatives, and an intentional grassroots  process for cultivating ideas and developing solutions PAI, builds  community capacity, inspires self-determination and community-driven  solutions to violence, punitive legal systems and social injustice  facing far too many communities. We believe that community agency is  what architects robust systems change and is what is needed to build new  institutional power that paves the way for a more just system rooted in  restoration, resilience and self-determination.    Get Invovoled  https://www.peoplesadvocacyinstitute.com/get-involved
