Thousands of Dutch fans would've left Spa disappointed. After all, their star driver crashed out on the opening lap. Nevertheless, Formula 1 fans were greeted with Charles Leclerc's top-quality drive as he won for Ferrari in front of the tifosi. Also in this week's episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast (http://bit.ly/insidelinef1podcast) , we introduce a new section - What Nico Said This Week. 32: Is Fernando Alonso Scared Of Max Verstappen?
The summer break has officially ended. Apart from the Gasly-Albon swap, the Red Bull-Alonso story caught our attention - for the 194th time. Alonso's been longing for a front running car to make his comeback to Formula 1 in 2020, so why on earth would he refuse the Red Bull opportunity? This is our focus story in this episode and of course the purpose for our sensational headline. Also in this episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, we wonder if Toto Wolff believes in Ferrari's success more than Ferrari themselves do. Why is Sebastian Vettel missing from the official F1 podcast? Which Hollywood A-lister could become Formula 1's 'high-profile team owner from America' and why Formula 1 needs to rethink their calendar while exploring the use of green fuels. For our listeners in Brazil, specifically Interlagos - go vote for your current Mayor. Tune in to know why! (Season 2019, Episode 32) Here's what's in store for you in this episode: 0:00-3:00: A quick recap of all the news from the summer break and the 'silly season' 3:00-6:00: Why on earth would Fernando Alonso reject Pierre Gasly's seat at Red Bull Racing. We discuss some of the actual reasons there could be. Was Alonso afraid of a possible demotion in 2020? 6:00-9:00: Can Ferrari actually claim their first win of 2019 at either Spa or Monza. Can it be both? Will we see Charles Leclerc finally claim his first win? Btw, why is Sebastian Vettel missing from the official Formula 1 podcast? 9:00-12:00: 22 races in 2020, will the Mayor of Interlagos make is 23 races in the time to come? Which Hollywood A-lister will become the first high-profile owner of a Formula 1 team? 12:00-15:00: Could Donald Trump purchase a Formula 1 team? A real American team with only American drivers. Mithila talks about her visit to the 'Masta Kink' in the old layout of the Spa Francorchamps 15:00-18:00: Memories from Spa + Lucien's Moments in Time 18:00-end: Ferrari's form is weather dependent, so look out for the track temperatures before deciding who to bet on for race win! 31: Robin 'Aceman' Raikkonen Cometh
Robin 'Aceman' Raikkonen's made the headlines and he's lined up his first sponsor already! Whether he chooses two or four wheeler racing, the Aceman's journey will be well-followed and cheered by all Motorsport fans. Here's hoping that the Raikkonens entertain us for the years to come. Will Kimi Raikkonen retire at the end of 2020 or will he race for at least one more season under the new regulations in 2021? In this episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, we ask whether Formula 1's regulations for 2021 are an inspiration from the current Indy Car design. We discuss Helmut Marko's double standards on overtaking. We wonder how embarrassing it would be for Ferrari if a Vettel-Leclerc pairing is beaten by Verstappen-Albon. Finally, Cyril Abiteboul's suggestion on changing race tracks to improve Formula 1's show makes sense, but do we not pay heed because its Cyril? Tune in! (Season 2019, Episode 31) Here's what's in store for you in this episode: 0:00-3:00: From Iceman to the Aceman, hopefully the Raikkonens will entertain us for the years to come 3:00-6:00: Toyota has been giving Formula 1 fans much joy AFTER leaving Formula 1 - thank you. Is Formula 1 kind enough to offer drivers a comeback drive? Could Valtteri Bottas take a sabbatical too? 6:00-9:00: Could a Vettel-Leclerc pair be actually be beaten by a Verstappen-Albon pairing in 2019? Are Formula 1's 2021 designs inspired from Indy Car? 9:00-12:00: We expose Helmut Marko's double standards on Pierre Gasly's inability to overtake. Apart from Verstappen, do you know the other driver who has impressed Marko this season? 12:00-15:00: Cyril Abiteboul wants to change race tracks to improve the show of Formula 1. 28: Kimi Raikkonen For James Bond
Kimi Raikkonen - is there a better candidate in the Formula 1 paddock to play the role of James Bond? No, sorry, Lewis Hamilton loses out too. Jokes aside, it is high time Sebastian Vettel stops playing the role of the villain who spins or crashes out other drivers. In this week's episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, we point out the irony in Nico Rosberg's advice to Kimi Raikkonen, applaud Renault's honest admittance of ignoring Nico Hulkenberg, wonder if Lewis Hamilton will collect the Constructors' trophy next race and if there's a nexus between former Formula 1 drivers to further ruin the sport's tyres for 2020. Tune in! (Season 2019, Episode 28) Here's what's in store for you in this episode: 0:00-3:00: Why Kimi Raikkonen wins the mandate to be the next James Bond. Sorry, Lewis! 3:00-6:00: The irony of Nico Rosberg's advice to Kimi Raikkonen. Also, did Ferrari fire the wrong driver last year? Happy Anniversary, Seb. 6:00-9:00: The Formula 1 tyre conspiracy deepens further. First Marcus Ericsson, then Sebastian Buemi. 9:00-12:00: Lewis Hamilton to collect the Constructors' trophy at the next race? He's doing much more for Ferrari than just racing! Also, why Eddie Jordan is to be believed when he talks about Mclaren and Mercedes 12:00-15:00: Yes for ground effects, but no for re-fuelling. Which driver has spun and / or crashed the most in the last 12 months? ;-) Could Jean-Eric Vergne be the solution to the Pierre Gasly-headache for Red Bull Racing? 15:00-18:00: Romain Grosjean could be the reason Nico Hulkenberg saves his seat at Renault for 2020? 25: F1 Needs To Apologise To Valtteri Bottas
Every sport needs to build and worship its heroes, the current flavour for Formula 1 being Lewis Hamilton. But Formula 1 took one step too far when it asked Valtteri Bottas, Hamilton's title rival, to sing praises for the reigning World Champion not once, but twice. Enough, lads. Let's respect the title rivalry between the two Mercedes drivers. In this week's episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, we wonder if Esteban Ocon will eventually have to settle for a Renault in 2020 after having Mercedes dreams. Could Ocon-Renault lead to an exit from the sport for Nico Hulkenberg? By what races this year would Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton wrap up their titles? Who would you believe more when it comes to 'how tough it is to race a Formula 1 car?', Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton-Romain Grosjean? Finally, should Mercedes continue racing in Formula 1 despite not having anything left to prove? And of course, did you know that Formula 1 actually played 'Happy Birthday' on the podium instead of the national anthem for the winning driver in one of the previous editions of the Austrian Grand Prix? Tune in! (Season 2019, Episode 25) Here's what's in store for you in this episode: 0:00-3:00: If you are a Formula 1 team boss, there's one junior driver you must absolutely sign up before your rivals do 3:00-6:00: Formula 1 owes Valtteri Bottas an apology. Period. 6:00-9:00: Could Nico Hulkenberg be out of Renault (and Formula 1?) by the end of this season? Instead of a Mercedes, Esteban Ocon might have to settle for a Renault in 2020 9:00-12:00: What race will Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton wrap up their respective titles in 2019? We are currently in a season-long Mercedes advertisement. And Lewis, please don't wrap up your title in Mexico one more time 12:00-15:00: Should and will Mercedes continue competing in Formula 1? They have been unbeatable since 2014 - there's almost nothing left for them to prove 15:00-18:00: Max Verstappen vs. Lewis Hamilton and Romain Grosjean, whose side are you on? The debate is about how physically exerting it is to race a Formula 1 car 18:00-end: Formula 1 needs Lewis Hamilton's 'Midas Touch' + Moments in Time with Lucien Subscribe: iTunes (http://bit.ly/insidelinef1podcast) , audioBoom (http://bit.ly/insidelineviarss) (RSS feed for all devices) and Google Podcasts (http://bit.ly/ilf1pgooglepodcasts) Official Page: Facebook (http://bit.ly/insidelineonfacebook) Follow our hosts on Twitter: Mithila Mehta (http://www.twitter.com/mith_m) and Kunal Shah (http://www.twitter.com/kunalashah) Image courtesy: Mercedes Learn more about your ad choices. 24: F1 Should Make Winning Prize Money Public
We know Roger Federer's prize money from his Grand Slam wins. We also know of Real Madrid's earnings from their exploits across various football championships. It's a norm for most sports series to reveal winning prize money, so why not for Formula 1? We would love to know (officially!) what Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton earn from Formula 1 for raising the performance bar to newer levels every fortnight. Should this be one more change the sport makes for 2021? Also in this week's episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, we react to the rumour that Formula 1 cars could be powered by 50% electric power come 2025 - if so, by what year would Formula 1 become Formula E? The supposed $175 million budget cap for each team - how many teams can actually spend that much? We thank Ferrari for handing Karun Chandhok his best career moment in Formula 1. And finally, we relish at the prospect of Max Verstappen racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in an Aston Martin hypercar come 2021 or whenever! Tune in (Season 2019, Episode 24) Here's what's in store for you in this episode: 0:00-3:00: Max Verstappen could race Aston Martin's hypercar in the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans. Verstappen's inspiration for Le Mans? Nico Hulkenberg! 3:00-6:00: From 2021, Formula 1 teams could collectively spend $2 billion every season to try and entertain us. That's the leaked $175 million per team x 10 teams 6:00-9:00: Formula 1 should making teams' winning prize money public - we'd love to know what Mercedes-Hamilton make for boring us all season after season 9:00-12:00: What year could Formula 1 become Formula E? Mithila picks 2030. What's your pick? 12:00-15:00: Ferrari handed Karun Chandhok his best career moment in Formula 1 yet! Btw, did Sergey Sirotkin just replace Fernando Alonso as Mclaren's reserve driver for 2019? 15:00-end: Moments in Time with Lucien Subscribe: iTunes (http://bit.ly/insidelinef1podcast) , audioBoom (http://bit.ly/insidelineviarss) (RSS feed for all devices) and Google Podcasts (http://bit.ly/ilf1pgooglepodcasts) Official Page: Facebook (http://bit.ly/insidelineonfacebook) Follow our hosts on Twitter: Mithila Mehta (http://www.twitter.com/mith_m) and Kunal Shah (http://www.twitter.com/kunalashah) Image courtesy: Red Bull Content Pool Learn more about your ad choices. 20: Are Ferrari Embarrassed To Top Free Practice Sessions?
The 2019 Formula 1 Championships aside, Ferrari seem out of contention for the 2019 Free Practice World Championships too. Or is it that the former World Champions are too embarrassed to keep topping the not-so-relevant sessions? We discuss more in this week's episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast. Also, this episode is a summary of What They Said This Week - the 'they' in question being Toto Wolff, Renault and Robert Kubica. We bid adieu to Niki Lauda whilst reminiscing memories of the yesteryears. Monaco brought an end to the 8 drivers / 8 teams juggernaut in Formula E, will it also do so for Formula 1? Or are Mercedes on course to win every race this season? If not, how many races could Ferrari win in 2019? Tune in! 18: Is F1 Overselling Its 2021 Agenda?
Picture this: Formula 1 is a country; its fans (all of us!) are its citizens. This would make Chase Carey its Head of State and the teams and drivers the government functionaries - working hard to deliver a good championship fight. In all of this, is Formula 1 overselling its agenda and plans for 2021? Is Carey sounding like the politician who is asking its citizens to sacrifice today and be patient for a better tomorrow (2021), even as he comes up for re-election (contract renewal)? No, we've not gone bonkers and this is why you should tune in to this week's episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast. Also in this episode, why being Mr. Nice Guy won't make the cut for Sebastian Vettel but how even the FIA is trolling the supposed championship contender, Bernie Ecclestone's public admission of being wrong, how the Toto Wolff for Formula 1 CEO came about and if Flavio Briatore will run for President too. And finally, do you really believe Max Verstappen when he says that he isn't the 'number 1' driver in Red Bull? Tune in! (Season 2019, Episode 18) Here's what's in store for you in this episode: 0:00-3:00: Is Formula 1 overselling its agenda for 2021? Will Formula 1 actually be better then? 3:00-6:00: Toto Wolff as Formula 1's CEO? But what if Liberty Media just renew Carey's contract? Could Flavio Briatore apply for this post too? 6:00-9:00: Did you hear, Bernie Ecclestone just publicly admitted that he was wrong!! 9:00-12:00: Sebastian Vettel is Mr. Nice Guy - but that doesn't seem to matter to anyone whatsoever! Btw, even the FIA's joke is on Vettel. Yes, you heard this here first 12:00-15:00: Max Verstappen actually said that he isn't the number #1 driver in Red Bull, much like Lance Stroll's blamed bad luck for his eight consecutive Q1 exits 15:00-end: Moments in Time with Lucien + predictions for P7! 15: Ferrari: Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don't
Should Ferrari use team-orders or not? They were trolled for not doing so in 2018 and now are now being trolled for doing so in 2019! As for China, we believe Ferrari was right in using team-orders. But before you jump onto us for this statement, tune in to this episode. We also talk of how 'disbelief' is governing Ferrari's title campaign for 2019 and how the team and Sebastian Vettel avoided major embarrassment in Formula 1's 1000th Grand Prix. Also in this episode, we tell you why trolling the Strolls ain't gonna work - even if Lance presses the radio instead of the energy button. We discuss the ONE reason why Mercedes would promote Esteban Ocon to a race seat, even if Valtteri Bottas does sufficiently well this year and if Romain Grosjean is some sort of a benchmark for drivers in Formula 1\. If Mclaren decide to field a full-time team in Indycar, we tell you why it would be a smart decision. Tune in! (Season 2019, Episode 15) Here's what's in store for you in this episode: 0:00-3:00: Max Verstappen is spinning around too - just that he's spinning when it doesn't matter. 3:00-6:00: Why Lance & Lawrence Stroll deserve to be in Formula 1 - it is family business. As for Kimi Raikkonen, Formula 1 is a hobby! Is Romain Grosjean a benchmark in Formula 1? 6:00-9:00: Ferrari - damned if you do, damned if you don't - on their use or no-use of team-orders. But thank you for the BIGGEST story from Formula 1's 1000th Grand Prix 9:00-12:00: Will Toro Rosso receive an invoice from Ferrari for their brake disc cooling services in China? Will the better starting Mercedes driver end up winning the Drivers' Championship in 2019? 12:00-15:00: We discuss the ONE scenario that could see Mercedes promote Esteban Ocon to a race seat. Is Formula 1 going the Formula E way and prefering street circuits? 15:00-18:00: Ferrari-Vettel avoided major embarrassment in the qualifying session in China. Also, was the pit-wall of Red Bull Racing and Haas asleep in Q3? 18:00-end: Mclaren's decision to field a full-time Indycar team could be completely understandable and justifiable. They are trying to emulate Fernando Alonso's moves outside of Formula 1. The Inside Line F1 Podcast, a top-rated podcast on iTunes and audioBoom, is hosted every week by Mithila Mehta and Kunal Shah. 14: Sebastian Vettel Is Trolling The Trolls ;-)
Sebastian Vettel - from spinning on track, he's now spinning in the simulator. Is this Vettel's way of trolling his trolls? Let's remember, the German has an impeccable sense of humour too. Instead of wins, pole positions and fastest laps, his spin count (4 in the last 10 races) leads the chatter among Formula 1 fans. One thing is for sure, Vettel will bounce back. But which race will it be? In this week's episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, we discuss the celebrations around Formula 1's 1000th Grand Prix, a possible Verstappen-Ocon pairing at Mercedes, which driver prodigies will place his hands on the title trophy first - Leclerc or Verstappen, Formula E's new ambassadors - Bernie Ecclestone and Lewis Hamilton and of course, the possible addition of a Q4 to our ever-so-fun qualifying session. By the way, there's a 'What Villeneuve Said This Week' section. But worry not, it isn't replacing our ever-famous 'What Wolff Said This Week' section. Okay, now tune in! (Season 2019, Episode 14) Here's what's in store for you in this episode: 0:00-3:00: The questions that the 2019 Chinese Grand Prix could answer. And do you really care if this is Formula 1's 1000th Grand Prix? 3:00-6:00: Aero changes or not, will the Williams car overtake any of their rivals on-track this season? Bernie Ecclestone and Lewis Hamilton - Formula E's best ambassadors? 6:00-9:00: Will Lewis Hamilton be remembered for ending the Formula 1 careers of two former World Champions - Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel too? 9:00-12:00: Sebastian Vettel trolling the trolls - are you one of them? Watch out. And did you know why Lewis Hamilton hasn't watch the Netflix-F1 show? 12:00-15:00: Verstappen-Hamilton or Verstappen-Ocon to race for Mercedes in 2020? How soon before we see a Verstappen vs. Leclerc for the title battle? Which driver would be the first to place his hand on the coveted trophy? 15:00-18:00: This is a fantastic era to be a Motorsport fan - we tell you why. Should we add a Q4 section to qualifying from the 2020 Formula 1 Season? We discuss the pros and cons. And the 'What Villeneuve Said This Week' section. 18:00-end: Lucien's 'Moments In Time' of the Chinese Grand Prix + predictions The Inside Line F1 Podcast, a top-rated podcast on iTunes and audioBoom, is hosted every week by Mithila Mehta and Kunal Shah.
