EP133 - FDA Black Label Warning on ADHD Meds.

FDA BLACK LABEL WARNING ON ADHD MEDS is an exploration and exposure of the hypocritical system that these so-called 'authorities' around mental disorders, medication and treatment have been trying to keep up... but it's all crumbling. The FDA has finally acknowledged ADHD drugs can cause addiction, even when used as prescribed. The agency is now requiring this information to be added to its black box warning on all stimulant drugs.According to Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), the FDA’s label change regarding addiction is long overdue. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has categorized ADHD drugs as having a “high potential for abuse” (Schedule II) since 1971. Current DEA Schedule II drugs include such highly addictive drugs as morphine, oxycodone, and fentanyl. https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-safety-and-availability/fda-updating-warnings-improve-safe-use-prescription-stimulants-used-treat-adhd-and-other-conditions https://fox59.com/business/press-releases/ein-presswire/634134443/fda-finally-adds-addiction-to-black-box-warning-on-adhd-drugs/?fbclid=IwAR0M3g8DOuVUA1VrUR3wZ32v9tPZvEiOIuaUqiCDuH_BuI97-YeXeGHlsoE https://www.thefp.com/p/america-addicted-to-adderall-shortage?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=260347&post_id=128098935&isFreumail=true&utm_medium=email&fbclid=IwAR2oalr2uCDQCtnszhiiOL5dx_KzYSVbQTybd139UUshrIMue1k9G3BN-tI For more information on this podcast, please visit www.adhdisover.com

EP131 - Is ADHD an Addiction?

IS ADHD AN ADDICTION? is an exploration into the world of out-of-control 'distractions'. Since there is a 95% overlap between the symptoms of Trauma and ADHD... we might as well look at the possibility that not being able to control our distractedness might be more of an addiction than a brain disorder. The APA and the NIH agree that addictions are behavioral disorders and since we call 'ADHD behavior' 'symptoms', we should look deeper into those behaviors that won't allow us to pay attention (aka being distracted). EP130 - Compassionate Curiosity.

COMPASSIONATE CURIOSITY is a delightful episode with Jeanine Mouchawar. A Stanford University graduate, Jeanine works as a certified professional life coach for parents of teenagers. She helps make parenting easier by teaching new communication strategies and a 5-step communication process that stop the battles and create a calm, peaceful home. Parents learn how to teach their teens cooperation, responsibility, and critical life skills to empower them for success. In the process, they create the positive, meaningful relationship they always imagined. One of her own sons was diagnosed with ADHD at a young age and I am excited to dive in and talk with Jeanine about how she and her family dealt with this diagnosis and how she embarked on her life's purpose during that time. EP129 - Unsafety.

UNSAFETY is an episode dedicated to our most recent conclusion on what the main cause(s) of ADHD could be... and when we say could be, we are taking pretty much the same stand as the experts in the field: CDC, APA, NIH, etc. They are largely speculating on the exact cause(s) of ADHD. But none of the main stream explanations make sense and none of them are scientifically proven. Sure, there are studies that attempt at telling us that it's 'genetic' or that it's 'for life' or that medication is the 'only effective longterm solution'... In this episode we go way back to the moment of birth and we look at what a baby's nervous system goes through upon arrival and later in childhood leading up to adult hood. Could it be that our society - culture - is the biggest stressor of children? Listen in for yourself and come along for the ride. For more information on this podcast, please visit www.adhdisover.com

EP126 - History doesn't lie.

HISTORY DOESN'T LIE is an episode with Matthew Smith, the author of "Hyperactive: The Controversial History of ADHD". Matthew is a Professor of Health History at the University of Strathclyde's Centre for the Social History of Health and Healthcare in Glasgow, Scotland. Matthew has written several books and notable articles about the history of ADHD, as well as food allergy, food additives, and social psychiatry. He is a BBC/AHRC New Generation Thinker and co-edits the Palgrave book series "Mental Health in Historical Perspective.” Here are some links to Matthew's books and articles: "Hyperactive: The Controversial History of ADHD". This book is the most comprehensive history of ADHD, charting its origins in the Cold War and why it became seen as a neurological disorder best treated with drugs. https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/distributed/H/bo14444518.html "An Alternative History of Hyperactivity: Food Additives and the Feingold Diet". This book - the relationship between food chemicals and ADHD and why the hypothesis that food additives could cause behavioral problems in children - has come in and out of fashion. https://www.rutgersuniversitypress.org/an-alternative-history-of-hyperactivity/9780813550169 "Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails: Boys and Behaviour in the USA”. This open access article demonstrates how, prior to the emergence of ADHD in the late 1950s, behavioral experts were concerned with shy, withdrawn, inactive boys, rather than the kids we now associate with ADHD. The article explains why this all changed, resulting in concerns with hyperactive, inattentive, and impulsive children. https://www.utpjournals.press/doi/full/10.3138/cbmh.236-112017 "Psychiatry Limited: Hyperactivity and the Evolution of American Psychiatry, 1957-1980". This open access article shows how psychiatrists debated how to understand children’s behavioral problems after WWII and explains why neurological explanations and psychopharmaceutical explanations became the norm. https://academic.oup.com/shm/article/21/3/541/1701613 "Hyperactive Around the World? The History of ADHD in Global Perspective". This open access article charts how ADHD has been adopted, adapted, or rejected in different parts of the world. https://academic.oup.com/shm/article/30/4/767/2919401 For more information on this podcast, please visit www.adhdisover.com

EP125 - ADHD & Bad Reviews

ADHD & Reviews is an episode I've been meaning to do for a while, reviewing some of the negative reviews on our podcast. There is always more than meets the eye and I just find it unfair that most negative reviewers didn't take the time to really listen to our podcast or to reach out and ask to have a mature conversation around it. We're always open to do so. Anyway, listen for yourself and see what you think. For more information on this podcast, please visit www.adhdisover.com
