Benjamin Bratton on Synthetic Catallaxies, Platforms of Platforms & Red Futurism (part 2/2)

Part two of the episode with Benjamin Bratton one of the most interesting contemporary thinkers. In his work he bridges the gap between political theory and the techno-social realities and possibilities of our time.On the format:This Future Histories LIVE event came together as part of an invitation to hold a guest lecture at the Goldsmiths College in London. I proposed a format in which I would hold a short presentation on podcasting as a form of extended research and then record an episode live in front of the students. My warmest thanks go out to Mattia Paganelli for the invitation to hold the guest lecture, to Benjamin Bratton for taking part in the interview and discussion and to the students of the Goldsmiths' seminar on Computational Arts for their participation.ShownotesBenjamin Bratton's Homepage:http://www.bratton.info/Benjamin Bratton on Twitter:https://twitter.com/brattonWebsite of the Center for Design and Geopolitics:http://www.designgeopolitics.org/Bratton, Benjamin. 2016. Benjamin Bratton on Synthetic Catallaxies, Platforms of Platforms & Red Futurism (part 1/2)

Benjamin Bratton is one of the most interesting thinkers of our time. 2016. Daniel E. Saros on Digital Socialism and the Abolition of Capital (Part 2)

Part 2 of the in depth interview with Daniel E Saros. While many are unsatisfied with capitalism and critique it in highly sophisticated ways, there are few concrete proposals for a socialist mode of production that could replace the capitalist one. Daniel E. Saros has developed such a proposal in his book "Information Technology and Socialist Construction – The End of Capital and the Transition to Socialism" which we discuss at length over the course of two episodes.ShownotesInformation on and works by Daniel E. Dime & Punishment Panel

This is a the recording of a panel I organized and moderated in Febuary 2020 as part of my research fellowship at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society. The panel critically discusses the expansion of cryptoeconomics into an 'art of government'. The panelists are: - Jaya Klara Brekke (Post-Doc Researcher at the Department of Geography, Durham University) - Benjamin Seibel (Director of the Ideation & Prototyping Lab at the Technologiestiftung Berlin and author of “Cybernetic Government”) - and Martin Köppelmann (Co-founder and CEO of Gnosis) Description:Cryptoeconomics is a design-paradigm that is used, among other things, for the protocol layer of almost all currently existing blockchains. It is intended to generate security guarantees for the reliable execution of these protocols by combining economic incentives/penalties (-economics) with applied computer science (crypto-). Apart from this specific use case in distributed, “decentralized” networks, cryptoeconomic design principles are being promoted by some to be an adequate way of “designing” social interactions and institutions in areas not related to questions of network security.Shownotes:Homepage Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society:https://www.weizenbaum-institut.de/en/Homepage Weizenbaum Research Group 17 (Trust in Distributed Environments):https://weizenbaum-institut.de/en/research/governance-and-norm-setting/trust-in-distributed-environments/Research Group 17 on Twitter:https://twitter.com/JWI_TruDiHomepage Jaya Klara Brekke:http://www.jayapapaya.net/Jaya's dissertation homepage:http://distributingchains.info/...and the dissertation itself:Brekke, Jaya Klara. 2019.
