Spiritual Foundations Don't Block Your Blessing “…Whatever He says to you, do it.” (John 2:5, NKJV) If I offer you a gift, holding out to you with arms extended, but you keep your hands in your pockets… To whom does the gift still belong? I can't force you to take it. Yet, sometimes this is how we behave in life. There are gifts that are right in front of us, we have our hands firmly stuffed in our pockets, oblivious to what life is offering us. there are times when we are so focused on the only thing we can think about (such as needing more money) that we fail to see what God is offering to us in the here and now. Usually, it will lead us directly to what we need provision for. You might say, “I get that, but I do need money and I don't have my hands in my pockets. But God still hasn't supplied me with the money.” We'll keep in mind that the “hands in pockets” thing is a metaphor. There may be something else that God is asking you to do or suggesting to you that you are ignoring. As because you're so focused on the outcome, you're missing the process. You might say that you're working hard, but your timing faithfully, and the your “doing everything right”. And maybe you are. And I certainly don't want to get into a discussion about whether or not we earn God's favor (we don't). But one thing I know we do is sometimes block God's attempts to bless us. Is the equivalent of having your hands in your pockets when someone's trying to give you a gift. For instance, if you're holding bitterness and anger in your heart toward someone, or unforgiveness, that could block your blessing. Today, ask the Lord to help you search your own heart for anything that may be blocking or refusing his power. This is about trying to find something wrong with you, by the way. It's not about trying to “search out sin”. Most of us don't need to search sin out – we know exactly where to find it. This can be more subtle. If you're spending all your energy and emotional reserves on harboring unforgiveness toward someone, or you're operating from a victim mindset because you're so “wounded”, you're cutting off access to your own best self. You're limiting the resources you have access to, and you're doing it by choice. So you might try praying something like this today: “Daddy, every part of my life belongs to you. I know you have my best interest at heart. Show me anything I need to do, anything I need to change, so that I'm open to receiving everything you want to give me. In the Bible, there was another King, David, who was known as a man after God’s own heart. His outlook on life was instructive. In Psalm 23, he says, “Goodness and mercy are following me.” David expected favor. He expected goodness. One translation says, “God’s kindness chases me everywhere that I go.” King David’s attitude was “something good is going to happen to me. Favor is following me. Wherever I go, God’s blessings are pursuing me. ” It's no mystery why David overcame great obstacles, and saw his dreams come true. He was positive that goodness was chasing him down like the “hound of heaven.” And God's goodness is chasing YOU right now. That same Psalm says “I lack nothing.” So what's chasing you is not lack. It's not failure. It's not sickness. It's not depression or anxiety. God says you are a royal priest, a child of the king, and heir to the promises given to Abraham, a co-heir with Christ. God says all your debts have been paid. You're redeemed from every curse. Divine connections, restoration of what was lost, favor, grace, and blessings … all in hot pursuit of YOU, wherever you are! God’s goodness and mercy are chasing you – all the days of your life! Two keys are attitude and altitude … Altitude Is Life Altitude is how high above the terrain your are. The greater your altitude, the less likely you are to run into obstacles, and the more time you have to recover from storms, turbulence, or mechanical trouble. Attitude Determines Outcome “Orientation of the aircraft relative to Earth's horizon. It indicates pitch (fore and aft tilt) and bank (side to side tilt) and is a primary instrument for flight in instrument meteorological conditions.  Attitude indicators are also used on manned spacecraft, where they indicate the craft's yaw angle (nose left or right) as well as pitch and roll, relative to a fixed-space inertial reference frame.” Stay elevated … and keep a good stable attitude. In life, our attitude is revealed by what we say. “I believe the single most important decision I can make on a day-to-day basis is my attitude choice. It’s more important than my past. It’s more important than my education or my bankroll or my success or my failures. My attitude choice is more important than my fame or my pain or what others think or say about me or my position or my circumstances. Attitudes keep me going or cripple my progress. Attitude alone fuels my fire or assaults my hope.” — Strengthening Your Grip, Pastor Charles Swindoll There are 3 Keys to Remember About Attitude and Altitude First, the attitude reveals the true person. “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.” Matthew 15:18 Second, the attitude predicts the future. “For as a person thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7, NKJV). Third, our attitude CONTROLS our altitude.
