Rebecca Traister on All the Single Ladies
Today, the amazing Rebecca Traister joins us to discuss her new book, the influence of single women on the political landscape, and feminism and politics. First, in The Pearls, we discuss violence at Ivanka's Dad's events and the state of the race. We end on a light note--talking about things we are looking forward to! Hosted on Acast. The Briefcase: Shocked All Around
We cover these topics plus your (always amazing) Friday feedback, which ranges from the distinction between being pro-market and pro-business, the Catholic Church, the impact of technology on the parties, and white working-class nostalgia. Beth's Crazy Moderate Third Party
Since we've been arriving at the conclusion that Beth needs to start her own party, we explore what that might look like today in the Suit. But first, we recap another bizarre week in politics-- from Super Tuesday to Super Saturday and everything in between. We discuss Mitt Romney's speech, Chris Christie's New Jersey press conference, and that disastrous GOP Debate. Finally, in the Heels, we take our first "ask me anything" question and reveal our dream tickets. Hosted on Acast. The Briefcase: There's More to Life Than the Horse Race
In this episode, we discuss Friday Feedback (as always!), reflect on the state of the race post-Super Tuesday, and then turn our attention to the Supreme Court's hearing on Texas's anti-choice laws. We also discuss the recent elections in Iran and the continuing world crisis resulting from Syria's civil war. Finally, we express concern about gun violence in a Middletown, Ohio, school. We never want to be numb to these incidents. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Fasten Your Seat Belts: It's a Bumpy Primary
Since the presidential election keeps setting record levels of crazy, there is a lot to talk about in the episode. We do our best to cover it all-- from the Democratic primary in South Carolina to the train wreck GOP debate to Chris Christie's more trainwreck-esque endorsement to expectations going into Super Tuesday. We also revoke the benefit of the doubt we previously gave to Rick Snyder, and we discuss the tragic shootings in Kansas and Michigan. In a segment we called "WTF MSNBC," we ask WHAT is up with Rick Tyler's hiring and Melissa Harris Perry's departure. In the Suit, we discuss the populism, frustration, and authoritarian forces in this race. We try to regain some nuance about the Sanders and Trump movements. But, in the Heels, we Photo Credit: juha-pekka via Compfight cc where we totally lose our nuance---outside of politics. Hosted on Acast. The Briefcase: SO much Listener Feedback
In this episode of The Briefcase, we discuss Friday Feedback from so many listeners: Vielka, Bryn, Rachel, and Obie on college and school dress codes; Katie on Hillary Clinton and women in leadership; and Megan on the Oregon standoff. Additionally, we promise to devote Tuesday's episode to populism, Trump, and Sanders based on a series of topics from Nickie. Additionally, we discuss the "hot mic" audio from a Donald Trump interview with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brezenski. Our listener Kedar flagged this for us, and it led to so many questions: In this media environment, what are the rules? What are journalists? And, what are we? Hosted on Acast. Education: The Most Important Issue We Aren't Debating
Obviously, we have to talk about the Nevada Democratic caucus and the crazy South Carolina Republican primary. We take a moment to lament Jeb Bush's exit from the campaign, and we discuss the state of the race going forward. We've been disappointed that education has barely been a side note in the presidential race, so devote The Suit to our thoughts on education reform. Finally, we talk Oscar nominations in The Heels. The Briefcase: Should I Be With Her?
On this episode of The Briefcase, we give a giant shoutout and thank you to Jacquie, Caitlin, and Sharon for supporting Pantsuit Politics. We received a ton of great feedback this week and appreciate every email, tweet, and Facebook message. We briefly discuss Lou's feedback on asymmetric polarization and the Supreme Court. At Loree's request, we talk about Jeb's "America" photo. We lament Nikki Haley's endorsement of Marco Rubio and the state of the Republican horserace. Finally, thanks to listener Michael, we consider identity politics and how much it should matter, if at all, that Hillary Clinton would be the first woman to be president. Hosted on Acast. Our Hair’s on Fire
Our listener Susan inspired the title of this episode. We recap two crazy debates and the even crazier (and, let’s be honest, inappropriate) reactions to Justice Scalia’s death and the process to nominate his successor. In the Suit (inspired by our listener Bailey) we discuss why we affiliate with our respective parties and what we think becomes of the parties after the 2016 race. Finally, in the Heels, we talk about the women in political media who inspire us. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Briefcase: Bernie and Trump
In this edition of The Briefcase, we share some of our brilliant listener insight and talk about how we got to a place where someone who isn't a Republican and someone who isn't a Democrat won the party primaries in New Hampshire.
