243: Rewiring to Retire with Dr. Gillian Leithman

Dr. Gillian Leithman, PhD is an adjunct professor at the John Molson School of Business, as well as a researcher and expert uniquely focused on helping employees as they transition from the working world into retirement.  She’s facilitated programs for a wide variety of businesses and organizations, including Bell Canada, TD Canada Trust, Telus, Business Development Canada, SAP, Moody’s, and the RCMP–just to name a few. And her work has been featured in Forbes, the Montreal Gazette, Reader’s Digest, the National Post and many more. She’s extensively studied how workforces age and transition into retirement, and has an incredible amount of first hand knowledge from her many interviews with pre-retirees and retirees. On top of all of this, she’s also the co-creator of the Certified Professional Retirement Coach designation, which allows students to become certified retirement coaches. In our conversation, Gillian and I talk about why she became so interested in retirement at such an early age in her own life, how our quest for work/life balance can create real problems once we retire, and the big takeaways from her workbook, Rewire to Retire: Five Crucial Questions You Must Ask Yourself Before You Retire That Have Nothing To Do With Money. 240: A Forecast of the Economy and Social Security with Larry Kotlikoff

Today I’m speaking to Laurence (Larry) Kotlikoff. Larry is a professor of economics at Boston University, a New York Times best-selling author, and the president of Economic Security Planning, where he works to produce powerful personal financial planning tools.  For much of his career, including two Presidential runs in 2012 and 2016, he’s been uniquely focused on personal finance and economic reform. He believes that we have the power to improve our individual economic futures, as well as our nation and our planet’s–but that there are real challenges along the way. In today’s conversation, Larry and I dig into the major problems facing the American economy in 2021, why higher taxes are all but inevitable (and why our government fails to tax so many people correctly), and how to evaluate Social Security to make the most of your potential benefits.  One more thing before we get started. We’ve got a bunch of copies of Larry’s book,  Get What's Yours: The Secrets to Maxing Out Your Social Security, and we're going to send them out until they're all gone! Here's all you have to do... Step 1.) Subscribe to the podcast and leave an honest rating & review over on iTunes. Step 2.) 237: Shifting Gears and Rethinking the Boundaries of Retirement with Richard Haiduck

Today, I’m speaking with Richard Haiduck. Richard is a real-life retiree not just living out their dream, but helping so many others elevate their experience in retirement. He’s challenged the boundaries of his own retirement, using the freedom of the blank slate to prioritize what matters most to him. In his book, Shifting Gears, he speaks to 50 Baby Boomers about their journeys into the world of retirement. If there’s one thing he’s learned, it’s that retirees have an unbelievable amount of freedom and a wide range of choices, whether that means summiting Mount Kilimanjaro at the age of 70 after two hip surgeries or simply volunteering and reading books.  In today’s conversation, Richard and I talk about the artificial boundaries of retirement, how he found the people and stories he decided to include in his book, creating amazing family businesses, and the beauty of being able to walk away from what doesn’t serve you. GET A FREE COPY OF RICHARD’S BOOK, SHIFTING GEARS. Here's all you have to do... Step 1.) Subscribe to the podcast and leave an honest rating & review over on iTunes. Step 2.)
