Hot Take: There’s No Such Thing As Pilates Arms

On today’s episode of Good Bodies, Emily and Lauren are talking all about the new Pink Pilates Princess trend and how it seems to be less about exercise and more about selling us things. They discuss Tiktok’s newest obsession with “pilates arms” and our lovely co-hosts are a bit skeptical. Does Miley Cyrus have “long lean pilates arms” or is she just… Miley Cyrus? This leads into a conversation about how exercise programs will often promise unrealistic and specific physical results regardless of one’s genetics or resources. The two also talk about the phenomenon of a shared worry many women have of “not wanting to get too buff.” Do people know what it actually takes to get “too buff”??TAG CREATORS Learn more about your ad choices. Is South Park Done With Fat Jokes?

On today’s episode of Good Bodies, Emily and Lauren are reviewing South Park’s newest movie “The End Of Ob*sity” which delves into the current cultural conversation around semaglutide injectables. Yes, South Park is a ridiculous and oftentimes offensive cartoon for adults… but do they make some valid points in this special? One of the running jokes they make is that “Rich people get Ozempic. Poor people get Lizzo.” Lauren especially has some thoughts on this and yes, we do enter the abyss of “Lauren’s conspiracy corner” for just a bit. “It’s Not A Diet, It’s A Lifestyle” And Other Lies The Wellness Industry Told Us

On today’s episode of Good Bodies, Emily and Lauren start things off with their advice segment. A listener writes in who has joined a fitness program which has accidentally reactivated some disordered thinking and eating. She joined because the trainer was super friendly and because they advertise body positive language. Do wellness programs have a responsibility to get the vocab right when it comes to terminology like “guilt-free eating”? If a calorie deficit is still being encouraged, is it really guilt free? This prompts a conversation about how confusing it can be to navigate wellness programs and the fitness industry as someone in search of true weight neutral care. The two close us out with a vocab lesson and tips on what to look out for. Thanks Emily and Lauren! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Help! My Workout Routine is BORING.

On today’s episode of Good Bodies, Emily and Lauren are bringing you a Wellness Check all about their recent experiences with group fitness classes. Lauren recaps an aqua zumba class she recently attended where all the participants were plus size. Heaven is a place on earth and it's in a pool with fellow fat babes?? Then, Emily shares how bored she is with her current workout routine and she even muses about joining Lauren for one of her plus size group fitness classes. The event group is called “Power Plus Wellness” and before each class they make sure to say “All shapes and sizes are welcome here but we are plus size focussed.” Should Emily join in or should it be a protected fat space? Why can’t there be more body positive fitness spaces plus size focussed or not? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Nips, Tucks, Lifts: A Conversation About Breast Surgeries

On today’s episode of Good Bodies, Emily and Lauren start things off by discussing their opinions on elective plastic surgery. A self proclaimed member of the Itty Bitty Titty Committee ™ ,Emily shares what it was like to grow up with a mom who had larger boobs and reveals some shocking new information. Then, they welcome comedian and musician, Rachel Green to the show who has recently decided to have breast reduction surgery for medical and self care reasons. Currently at a J cup, Rachel reveals that she’s already feeling some pre-grief about something that has been such a big part of her life; pun intended. Then, they close us out with a Self Care Share all about skincare. Turns out just taking off your makeup doesn’t quite qualify as a skincare routine but nobody told Lauren. Emily doles out some much needed advice about starting small and the importance of spf. Lauren shares her newfound love for French skincare products and advises to not overthink it, “Just buy some fancy sh*t, put it on your sink and goop it on your face sometimes.” Wise words. Okay We See You Oprah. Now, Hear Us.

On today’s debut episode of Good Bodies, Emily and Lauren announce the new name of the podcast. See ya never, diets! Then, they review Oprah and Weight Watcher’s most recent special “Making The Shift” which was basically made as a response to the response of their original special on ABC “Shame, Blame And The Weight Loss Revolution” Did you get all that? This episode functions as a sequel to “Oprah-Zempic” which aired 3/31/24. Right off the bat, both Emily and Lauren share how different this special felt; it was much less of a glorified infomercial for glp1s and more of a conversation from multiple perspectives about the ways in which diet culture has harmed us. We’re giving credit where credit is due but also shining a light on the ways in which the special was lacking. Can a body size really be a disease? Why aren’t we talking about weight neutral care? What does making the shift actually mean?Sources:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8560549/ Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Sam Smith And SZA Want You To Check Your Fatphobia

On today’s episode of Diet Start Tomorrow, Emily and Lauren review a strange new trend on social media where people are joking about having just an iced coffee for breakfast or an espresso martini for dinner. What is the punchline here, people?? Then, they launch into a Food-Pinion segment brought to you by Impossible Foods where Lauren declares Impossible meatballs to be just as good if not better than regular meatballs. Sure, this is a branded segment but Lauren is prepared to die on this meatball hill. Finally, the two close us out by reviewing Sam Smith’s bold statement on the Met Gala’s red carpet about the need for more inclusive sizing. A clip of this moment was posted to the Everything’s Fine Instagram page and it REALLY pissed off some internet trolls (go to therapy plz, internet) but SZA clapped back at the fatphobia in the comment section. Lauren Goes Back To The Gym

On today’s episode of Diet Starts Tomorrow, Lauren gives Emily an update on her return to the GYM. Even though there was some anxiety about working out in public as someone in a bigger body, Lauren was pleasantly surprised that people at the gym really couldn’t care less. Praise be. We close the episode out with Lauren reviewing her gym goalz which include improved mood, energy, sleep, longevity and more power when it comes to the bane of her existence, subway stairs. Turns out there are plenty of reasons to work out that aren’t weight loss; wish someone told us when we were teens! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
