The Patrick Madrid Show: December 19, 2023 - Hour 3
Patrick engages in thought-provoking conversations with his listeners on various topics. From discussing the intricacies of Catholic rights and sacraments, to addressing the role of lay people in evangelization, to navigating the complexities of Pope Francis' decisions, Patrick Madrid provides insight and clarity on pressing issues in the Catholic Church. Connor - Can I confirm my child in the Eastern Rite then attend a Latin Rite Church? Michael - I feel similarly to the caller about evangelization as a lay person. What do you think about the Catechism saying that lay people should evangelize? Jim - There is a lot of controversy with Pope Francis recently with the blessing of gay couples. I think Pope Francis has some wisdom in what he is doing. Giving them a blessing reminds them that they are in sin, in the same way that we get a blessing when we can't receive communion. Rick - I disagree that Jehovah's Witnesses don't have a lot to say. I feel they have a lot of good and they study the bible. Pat - When you have Mass intentions said for someone who has passed away, how do you know how effective the Masses are? Joseph - I go to daily Mass and see a crossing guard. I met her in a store and found out she was a Lutheran. What can I say to her to help her into the Catholic Faith? Pita - I was not married in the Church, but am Catholic. If I go to confession, can I receive the Eucharist? (34:20) Alison - IVF seems like it is fine since God is making life from it, so shouldn't it be okay? (43:56)

Patrick acknowledges that while some are confused and discouraged by certain things going on in the Church, he nonetheless spent a lot of time on the show today encouraging listeners to trust in Jesus, be faithful, not become discouraged, and in particular, to pay attention to the gospel story of the apostles caught in a huge storm on the Sea of Galilee while Jesus slept and they feared they would die, and then Jesus calmed the storm and asked them, “why did you doubt, you of little faith?"

Patrick comments on the breaking news that Pope Francis has said that priests can bless homosexual marriages (02:40) The Hard Truth Concerning When You Die (12:27) When you die, don't worry about your body... Your relatives and the funeral home will take care of it.They will take you out of the house and deliver you to the funeral home of your family’s choice. They will take off your clothes. They will wash you. They will dress you up.They will even apply makeup to make you look presentable. Many will come to the funeral to honor you. Some will even cancel their plans and ask for a leave to attend your funeral.Your things--things you hate to be borrowed will be sold, donated or burned.Your keys, tools, books, CDs, DVDs, games and clothes will be thrown in the trash. The world won't stop and cry for you.The economy will continue. You will be replaced at work. Someone with the same or even betterqualifications will take your place.People who only knew your face will say ‘rest in peace’Your good friends will cry for a few hours or several days, but then they will laugh again.Your pets will get use to their new owners.Your pictures will be hanging on the wall for a while, and then they will be placed on furniture and finally stored at the bottom of a box.All the things you once had will lose its meaningSomeone else will sit on your couch....You will soon be forgotten by friends, co-workers, neighbors, classmates and even Church folks you saw every week. Your bank account will freeze, and rarely will someone visit your grave stone with flowers But there is good news, there is life after death and you can live forgivenwith a Holy God. So don’t get too personal with life on earth. Make every moment that you live count, by making an impact for Jesus.Reach the lost, feed the homeless, and pray for the sick. Because in the end all that will matter is what you did with Jesus while you lived!!!I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all isvanity and grasping for the wind. --- Ecclesiastes 1:14 Melisa - My sister is getting married to a woman. Can we attend the party that they will have after the wedding? Arthur C. Clarke on BBC's Horizon in 1964, when he gave some astonishing predictions about the future. (37:35) Martha - I did not attend my daughters same sex wedding. Thanks for encouraging Melisa to stay true the faith.
