The Patrick Madrid Show: September 23, 2024 - Hour 1

Patrick delves into a humorous but thoughtful satire that questions the atheist viewpoint on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He explores why this theory of a hoax falls apart, highlighting the immense risks and gruesome sacrifices the apostles face to spread the word. Even if you're skeptical, understanding these perspectives can enrich your critical thinking.   Audio: This is how atheists think Christianity started (03:33) George - The problem with the satire is that the Apostles would have needed to know in advance that they would be killed. (14:48) Email – Why are parents afraid to be parents? (21:06) Piedad – I think parents are attending more games because they are more aware of the need for their kids to have them there, not because of guilt. (39:32) Email – Daycare centers are raising children, so the parents feel the need to go to every concert or game (44:26)

Do Miscarried Babies Go to Heaven? (Special Podcast Highlight)

Patrick Madrid had such a touching moment on his show when a sweet little girl named Emily from Texas called in with a really deep question. She asked, "Do babies who die in their mommy's tummy go to purgatory because of original sin?" You could just hear the innocence and sincerity in her voice, and Patrick's response was so kind and thoughtful.   He gently explained that no, those babies don’t go to purgatory. Purgatory is a place where souls go to be purified from sins they've committed during their lives, but unborn babies haven't had a chance to commit any sins at all. So, it wouldn’t make sense for them to be there.   Patrick then broke down the idea of original sin in a way Emily could understand. He used this really simple analogy: imagine your parents were billionaires (how fun would that be?!) and you were supposed to inherit all that money. But then, because of something your parents did, they lost it all, and even though it wasn’t your fault, you miss out on the inheritance. That’s kind of what original sin is like—it’s something we inherit from Adam and Eve, but it’s not because of anything we personally did.   What about those babies who don’t get a chance to be baptized? That’s where the Church trusts in God’s mercy. Patrick explained that while the Church doesn’t have an exact answer, it hopes and prays that God, in His love, gives those babies the grace they need to enter heaven. And he reminded Emily that God loves those babies even more than their parents or siblings ever could, so we trust that they’re safe with Him.   Patrick's ability to take such a big, complicated question and make it so clear and comforting was really beautiful.   Bottom line: We don’t know exactly what happens to miscarried babies, but we have every reason to hope that God, in His infinite love and mercy, welcomes them into heaven. And we can trust that one day, their families will be reunited with them in God’s embrace.   If you've suffered a miscarriage, the pain is real, and Relevant Radio is always here to pray with you and support you through the journey of grief. You are not alone.

The Patrick Madrid Show: September 20, 2024 Hour 2

Patrick talks about how to respond when someone takes the Lord's name in vain and continues the discussion as to how to best serve parents in CCD classes without mandatory meetings or high payments.  Zach - Advice for those who say the Lord's name in vain - I will make the sign of the cross whenever it happened, I would tell them why, and then they would stop using the language in front of me Rosa - I feel like I am burdening God too much with my things. What should I do? Jeff - Kids in CCD class. Where are the thank you to the people who are teaching these kids. I would do CCD for years and got very little thanks. We need more appreciate. Nancy - I have taught CCD for 15 years and I don't understand why we don't look at this from an educational perspective. CCD should include the parent instead of charging the parents. Pat - Fees for Sacraments: I don't think you have it right. I think the fees are low compared to other things like kid’s sports. Joseph - At the end of the Mass before the final blessing there are announcements. That bothers me so what should I do? Crystal email – My kids are in faith formation. Paying fees are okay with me and shows that these programs have value but mandatory parental classes for parents are not okay. Sharon - I am a CCD teacher, and we were given a packet about protecting God's Children. But we find some of it questionable. What should we do about this?

This is a problem all over the place. Lorenzo - Do you think that people should be able to use the Church Hall for free? Lori - I found out that my 15-year-old daughter thinks she is gay. What should I do? Deacon Tony - People don’t seem to want to donate to the Church but they are willing to spend money on other things. It seems to be a problem brought on by people not wanting to donate. What's the Difference Between Divine and Private Revelation? (Special Podcast Highlight)

So, Patrick Madrid dives into an important distinction that sometimes gets people confused: divine revelation versus private revelation. Think of divine revelation as the non-negotiables—what God has revealed through Scripture and apostolic tradition. This stuff is mandatory for us Catholics. You can’t pick and choose. You’re obligated to believe and obey it all because it’s literally God telling us what to believe and how to live.    Now, private revelation is different. It’s not required for everyone. It’s like when something supernatural happens to a few people, and it’s legitimate for them, but not binding on the rest of us. For example, Our Lady of Fatima appearing to the three shepherd kids in 1917. That’s a private revelation, even though it was eventually approved by the Church (and hey, that miracle of the sun? 70,000 people saw it!).   Patrick emphasizes that while Fatima is approved, it's still not on the same level as divine revelation. You don't have to believe in it, and you certainly don’t need to go on a pilgrimage to Fatima to be a good Catholic. Same goes for Medjugorje—while it seems to be moving towards Church approval, it's not there yet. You can visit, but don’t feel pressured to. You’re not required to follow these private revelations, no matter how devoted some people might be to them.   In a nutshell, Patrick warns against making private revelations bigger than they are. They're meaningful, but divine revelation—Jesus, the Bible, tradition—is the main thing. Stay grounded in that!

The Patrick Madrid Show: September 19, 2024 - Hour 2

Patrick clarifies the essential distinction between divine and private revelation. Divine revelation—God’s word through the Bible and apostolic tradition—is mandatory for all Catholics. Private revelation, like the apparitions at Fatima, is personal and not required for belief, though church-approved apparitions hold great value. Remember, while pilgrimages can be enriching, your faith doesn’t hinge on visiting such places.   Patrick shares the latest news out of Lebanon (00:26) Kip - 40-hour work week: I think 40 hours goes by fast if you are doing what you love! (06:40) Diana - My 15-years-old granddaughter was baptized but didn't make her first communion. There are things that spark her interest, and she told me that she wants to receive communion. I was told it was a three-year process to make first Holy Communion. What can we do? (12:58) John - Medjugorje promoted great things including adoration. (21:59) Patrick explains the difference between Private Revelation and Divine Revelation (38:31) John - I am an Apache, and I wanted to talk about the terrible things going on in the southwest reservations. They are trafficking drugs and hurting the Native American youth. Satan is alive and well in a lot of these places that don't practice the Catholic faith (45:10)
