Why Was The 1904 Olympics a Complete Shambles? | Wild Dogs, Poison, Cheating and Dust!

The weird history of the 1904 Olympics is insane. The Louisiana Worlds Fair hosted the 1904 Olympics Games and the marathon event was so poorly organised it nearly caused many of the competitors to lose their lives. Wild dogs, poison, cheating and dust wreaked havoc with the runners and it's surprising anyone managed to finish let alone win!Join me today for another Macabre Mini Mystery as I delve into the 1904 Olympic Marathon.*I made a few geographical mistakes in the video (was concentrating on the story, not the place, oops!) So.... St. Louis is pronounced “Lewis” and only called by the French pronunciation as a nickname or slang. I keep saying Louisiana, but the 1904 St. Louis olympics were in St. Louis, Missouri. The Louisiana Purchase includes territory that is now divided into several states, Missouri among them.So before you feel the need to email me or to leave a 1 star review, please know, geography is hard, particularly if you're not from there!! *----------------------------If you are new here, you may not know that Macabre London is a fortnightly podcast and YouTube show that delves into Londons haunted and gruesome history alongside discovering Macabre mini Mysteries from all over the world! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------PATREON——————————-please support us on Patreon. www.patreon.com/macabrelondonThank you to our executive producer patrons - Barry, Sam, Sarah, Kate, Veronica & MaryAnd to all of our $5 tier patrons...AlexisAmyAndrewDeniseHelenJamesKarenKimberlyMelanieMickeyRachelSabrinaWendyPlus HUGE thanks to all of our other patrons too!ONE OFF DONATIONS————————————————support the show via the PayPal link here:paypal.me/macabrelondonAMAZON WISHLIST—————————————please visit my Amazon wish list. http://amzn.eu/dJxEf1VSOCIAL MEDIA---------------------------------------------Insta: @macabrelondonpodcastTwitter: @macabrelondonFacebook: @macabrelondonEmail: macabrelondon@hotmail.comWebsite: www.macabrelondon.comSources:https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/the-1904-olympic-marathon-may-have-been-the-strangest-ever-14910747/https://www.theatlantic.com/photo/2019/09/the-1904-st-louis-worlds-fair-photos/597658/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louisiana_Purchase_Exposition#People_on_displayhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Summer_Olympicshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athletics_at_the_1904_Summer_Olympics_–_Men%27s_marathon Hosted on Acast.
