Bulls, Bears and a Broader Perspective from Three Big Brains

Broadcasting from the 41st annual New Orleans Investment Conference, we sit down to chat with Mark Skousen, Peter Schiff and Brien Lundin. Mark Skousen has been named one of the top 20 living economists. He's been writing a successful stock investing newsletter for nearly four decades. And he's a bull. Peter Schiff is a money manager, a multi-time best-selling author, and he famously warned a skeptical world about the 2008 financial crisis...in 2006. He says nothing's fundamentally fixed. In fact, Peter says the next crash will be even bigger than the last one. Some say he’s a bear. Brien Lundin is an expert in gold. He's the producer of the New Orleans Investment Conference and the publisher of a very popular newsletter on precious metal investing. Gold is an alternative to dollars as a store of liquid value. And the gold helps us understand what’s happening with the dollar. So even those you don’t hold gold can benefit from watching it. None of these guys are real estate investors. So they don't look at the world with a real estate bias. We like to visit with them because they help us discover blind spots we might have when we look at real estate. After four days in New Orleans, all our brain cells were fired up. So listen in as we talk about interest rates, the dollar, real estate, gold and what the future holds. Fed or Foe - Two Valid Views on the Federal Reserve

Former Federal Reserve chair Ben Bernanke is taking a victory lap and promoting his new book, The Courage to Act. Meanwhile, ex- Congressman and multi-time Presidential candidate Ron Paul is a well-known long-time critic of the Fed. One thing's for sure - The Fed is the most powerful financial force on the planet. Their decisions affect interest rates, economic activity, investment activity and the price of every product, commodity or service worldwide. Paper asset investors hang on every word the Fed utters...and real estate investors should pay close attention too. Both Ben Bernanke and Ron Paul appeared at separate events in separate cities within days of each other. So The Real Estate Guys decided to split up and cover both. Robert was in Dallas to hear Ron Paul. Russ headed to San Francisco is listen to Ben Bernanke. In this episode we compare notes and reflect on what we heard and how it affects real estate investors. Listen in and decide for yourself - is the Fed a friend….or foe? Going Global for Privacy, Asset Protection and Tax Savings

Most people invest in real estate for building wealth to enjoy then pass on to their family. But because of poor or little planning, some investors lose huge chunks of their assets to lawsuits and taxation. So in an age of hackers, surveillance and money hungry governments, it's never been more important to structure your holdings for maximum privacy, protection and tax mitigation. It used to be good enough to set up a simple local structure. More sophisticated investors and businesses then began to use interstate structures. Today, it's becoming more common for investors to use global strategies to build and protect wealth, minimize taxes and maximize privacy. Because the easier it is for a predator to find your wealth and make a claim on it, the more likely you are to come under attack. In this epsiode we welcome back internationl asset protection attorney Joel Nagel who shares his strategies for going global to protect wealth and pass more if it on when the time comes. In Search of Yield - Escape from Wall Street with Private Placements

Big banks and Wall Street have once again been accused of manipulating a major market.  As if the LIBOR scandal wasn't bad enough, the latest allegations of Treasury market shenanigans highlight the dangers of little fish swimming with big sharks. But with banks paying virtually nothing on savings, and high yielding residential real estate getting harder to find...where's an investor to go for higher yields and real assets? In this episode, attorney Mauricio Rauld talks with us about the growing popularity of private placements.  These are non-publicly traded investments where a sponsor organizes a group of private investors to purchase a single property or a portfolio of properties. These are deals typically too big for Mom & Pop investors to do, so you're not competing for profits with Johnny-come-lately novices who bid prices up.  But they're also too small for the big institutions to bother with, so there's often a "sweet spot" with private placements where deals still make sense...even in a hot market.
