This episode is in partnership with SAP SuccessFactors.
Kathleen Hogan, Chief People Officer at Microsoft, may oversee 160,000+ employees, but she never really planned on going into business. What the former Harvard mathematics major really wanted to do was become a professor.

The Dynamic State of Balance: Wende Zomnir of Urban Decay
When Wende Zomnir was ready for a change from her corporate job, her initial thought was to drop it all to become a freelance writer and scuba instructor. However, as fate would have it, she soon met the woman who would become her future co-founder. Lamenting the variety of exciting colors in the mid-90’s makeup scene, the two bonded and Urban Decay cosmetics was born.
A fan of big hair and big makeup since her childhood in Texas, Wende always had a creative, adventurous streak. Pair that with a dash of grit and resourcefulness, and you get one tenacious entrepreneur. Wende famously made her first sale with Nordstrom within 24 hours of contacting their buyer. These days she’s taken on more of a leadership role, but whether she’s working, knitting or diving with sharks, Wende is all about creating balance in a busy world.

Looking for a Little Grace: Author and FOX News Anchor Dana Perino
A passion for news was instilled in Dana Perino from a young age. As a little girl growing up in Wyoming and Colorado, her dad expected her to choose two articles a day from the local paper to discuss over the family dinner. The emphasis on current events paid off as Dana moved to Washington, D.C. to work in politics, eventually leading to her appointment as the White House Press Secretary under George W. Bush.
Now a veteran FOX News anchor and accomplished author, Dana is sharing the advice she learned as a young woman in her forthcoming book, Everything Will Be Okay – Life Lessons for Young Women. The key takeaway? Letting worry fall by the wayside and learning resilience along the path.

Believe in Your Brilliance: Danyel Surrency Jones of POWERHANDZ
This episode is sponsored by Capital One Business.
Some people feel the entrepreneurial itch from a young age and dive in headfirst as soon as they can create something to sell. Out of Your Head and Onto the Page: Author and NY Times Editor Jessica Bennett
Growing up as the child of liberal parents in Seattle, Jessica Bennett may have spent her formative years steeped in a culture of feminism, but she didn’t feel the need to claim the title of feminist until she was faced with the tangible gender disparities that arose during her first job as a staff writer at Newsweek in New York. Spurred by inexcusable evidence of wage discrepancy and story stealing, Jessica banded with other women in the company, only to discover Newsweek’s 40+ year history of discrimination against women.
Finding her niche in mission-driven journalism, Jessica has authored two books, received awards for her coverage of the LGBTQ+ community, been named the first ever gender editor of The New York Times, and launched numerous projects on gender politics and cultural trends. Still working to manage the demon known as “imposter syndrome” despite her many accolades, Jessica continues in her mission to bring change into the spaces that are not yet considered safe for women and marginalized communities.
