Learning How to Work with Fear: Diarrha N’Diaye of Ami Colé

Growing up spending time in her mom’s salon in Harlem, Diarrha N’Diaye learned a lot. From her mother’s business, started after her parents immigrated from Senegal with little knowledge of English, Diarrha learned about hard work and the entrepreneurial spirit. But what made a lasting impression was the atmosphere her mother cultivated: one of welcome, of warmth, to come-as-you-are and leave feeling beautiful. Diarrha knew she wanted to create that experience for more people, and an internship with Rebecca Minkoff kicked off her career in beauty and fashion. Now, as things come full circle, Rebecca is an investor in Ami Colé, Diarrha’s multipurpose, non-toxic, no-fuss line of makeup and skin care products beautifully designed as a safe space to celebrate melanin-rich skin. I Will Always Make Money No Matter What: Inventor Lindsay Albanese

Lindsay Albanese will be the first to admit that she is easily bored. She is also very open about the fact that she was never a great student. That hasn’t stopped her, however, from being a self-proclaimed “hard-ass worker.” When design school wasn’t what she hoped for, Lindsay set her sights on styling – an industry that, to this day, requires a lot of free labor in order to simply make the connections necessary to get the paid gigs. While her single-minded pursuit paid off as she was hired for more and more high-profile jobs, Lindsay found that her creative itch demanded new outlets. Shifting to YouTube influencer, TikTok maven, and ultimately inventing her signature TOPTOTE products, Lindsay proves that if you work hard and let intuition guide you, success will follow. The Better You Feel, the Bigger the Impact: Author Heather Chauvin

There is a message perpetuated over and again that sacrifice is synonymous with being a good mother. While there is inherently a degree of surrender that accompanies parenthood, it’s also impossible to nurture our children if we constantly neglect to nurture ourselves. Heather Chauvin understands firsthand how the intersection of parenting and hustle culture can be physically and mentally devastating, which she details in her book, Dying to Be a Good Mother. It took a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis to get Heather, a young, “type A” working mother of three, to slow down and reevaluate her life. The momentum that had built over years of working and mothering had left her with precious little time to devote to herself, something she now sees as key to a happy, healthy life. Through her book, podcast, and personal coaching, Heather shares both big and small ways in which to slow down, listen to your needs and create space for yourself. In doing so, she believes, self-care creates a ripple effect that enables parents to nourish themselves and their children on a deeper level. Trick or Treat: How Diet and Lifestyle Support Whole Body Health with Dr. Casey Means

Dr. Casey Means started off as a surgeon with a focus on the ear, nose and throat. After spending some time in the field, however, a pattern emerged. Dr. Means came to realize that many conditions treated with drugs or surgery were not eradicating the root cause of disease, which could in fact be managed by a change in diet and lifestyle. Data shows that metabolic dysfunction aggravates or causes many of the leading life-threatening diseases in the U.S. Further research reveals that only 1 in 12 Americans are considered “metabolically healthy.” In response, Dr. Means has created Levels, a glucose monitoring system aimed at tracking each person’s individual reactions to the foods they eat in order to tailor diet and exercise to the specifications that work the best for their body’s unique chemistry. As diseases rise and life expectancy declines, Levels offers the opportunity to invest in ourselves by imparting autonomy over our own health. Failure is the First Attempt in Learning: Courtney Rich of Cake by Courtney
