The Cleveland Strangler - Anthony Sowell Part 2

The conclusion to the Cleveland Strangler. Anthony Sowell is a serial killer who was active in the Cleveland, Ohio area between 2007 and 2009. Sowell was arrested in 2009 after the police discovered the remains of eleven women in and around his house on Imperial Avenue in Cleveland. The victims of Sowell's crimes were predominantly African-American women who were vulnerable and had struggled with addiction and poverty. Sowell targeted these women, many of who were sex workers, and lured them to his home under false pretenses before assaulting, raping, and strangling them. He then buried their bodies in and around his property, where they remained hidden for months and years. Sowell's crimes were significant due to their gruesome nature, the high number of victims, and the fact that they took place over an extended period of time without being detected by law enforcement. The case drew widespread attention from the media and the public, highlighting the issues of poverty, addiction, and violence against vulnerable women. Support us! Want ad free listening? How to Murder Your Husband - Nancy Brophy

Join us on the next episode of Crime Salad where we explore a case of life imitating art. Romance Writer Nancy Brophy wrote an essay on how to get away with murdering your husband. By all accounts, she was happily married to chef Daniel Brophy at the time. But then Dan who worked as a Chef at the Oregon Culinary Institute as an instructor was found murdered by one of his students. Later surveillance cameras would show Nancy's van circling the crime scene while she told police she was still in bed. After being arrested she conveniently couldn't remember what happened during the hour she drove around the murder scene. She chalked up her inconsistencies to shock. However, at the time of her Trial, she testified that she was sure she couldn't have murdered her husband based on the feelings in her heart. Support us! Want ad free listening?
