Liverpool and Mbappe | Soumaré, Aouar, Upamecano lowdown | Fekir and what happened next
In the latest instalment of our special series of transfer podcasts, in which we get the lowdown on players linked to Liverpool, Matt Addison picks up the phone to speak to French football expert Tom Williams. On the agenda are Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumaré, Lyon attacker Hassan Aouar and RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, who are all reportedly on the radar of Jurgen Klopp's European champions. One player Reds boss Klopp - along with every other manager in the world - would like to sign is Kylian Mbappe. The prodigiously talented 21-year-old has spoken highly of Liverpool while Anfield has been touted as his next possible destination. But is there any chance of that happening? Will the Reds' new kit deal with Nike help a possible transfer? And just what makes Mbappe so special? Tom answers those questions as well trying to shed some new light on the Nabil Fekir saga, and what's happened to the playmaker since his dream move to Liverpool fell through. Enjoy. Liverpool Classics: Liverpool 4-4 Arsenal | Rafa Benitez, Fernando Torres and the tale of the 2008-09 season
On this day 11 years ago in 2009, Liverpool draw 4-4 with an-Andrey Arshavin inspired Arsenal at Anfield in one of the greatest matches in Premier League history. The point did take Rafa Benitez's Reds to the top of the table, but in spite of Yossi Benayoun's last-gasp equaliser, the result handed the title initiative to eventual champions Manchester United. However, although Liverpool ended the 2008-09 season empty-handed, it was a season that contained that so many happy memories, which Paul Wheelock and Dan Kay look back on in our latest Liverpool Classics podcast. Also on the agenda are Fernando Torres, the Reds' other two-goal scorer on a night filled with drama, and the manager, himself, and why there was no shame in Benitez being unable to follow up his Champions League success with that prized Premier League title.
