He also asks the leading football finance expert to explain why the decision to charge £14.95 for pay-per-view matches is not the fault of Liverpool and their Premier League rival clubs. Blood Red: Thiago and Hendo derby boost | Pay-per-view and Project Big Picture | And who’s heading out of the club this week?

It’s a whistle-stop Blood Red podcast as Paul Gorst and Dan Kay join host Connor Dunn to pack in a whole host of big Liverpool talking points – starting with positive news about new boy Thiago Alcantara and captain Jordan Henderson plus early thoughts on Saturday’s Merseyside derby. We’ll have more on that on Friday’s show – and more on FSG’s 10-year anniversary as the club’s owners later this week, too. That’s still touched on, here. However, more time is dedicated to the decision from the Premier League to charge supporters £14.95 for pay-per-view matches and Liverpool’s part in the Project Big Picture plans that emerged over the weekend. Also, the panel wonder whether Harry Wilson and a number of youngsters could be departing before the domestic transfer window closes on Friday. The Agenda: Should Takumi Minamino or Diogo Jota get a chance ahead of Roberto Firmino?

Roberto Firmino is perhaps the defining player of Jurgen Klopp’s five years in charge of Liverpool. But, following the 7-2 defeat at Aston Villa, the Reds’ brilliant number nine was not spared criticism. Was that fair? Maybe, maybe not. But what is clear is that Firmino – and the other members of the club’s feared front three – has real competition for his place given the impressive strides made by Takumi Minamino since the start of the new season and by the big-money arrival of Diogo Jota. The good news is that Firmino will go into the Merseyside derby next weekend on the back of a couple of morale-boosting goals for Brazil. But, having netted just once in the Premier League since January (albeit three of those months were lost to lockdown), some have suggested his place is not as secure as it once was. So Matt Addison and Theo Squires tackle the subject in the latest episode of The Agenda. The Liverpool Echo sends a twice-daily Liverpool FC bulletin out via email with the all latest news, views and analysis from Anfield.
