Episode 101: How to Talk to Your Kids After a School Shooting - a Message of Hope
It's unthinkable that we're recovering from another school shooting that took the lives of innocent children and adults. Child and adolescent counselor, Sissy Goff shares helpful ideas on how to talk with kids after a tragedy like this. This content originated on Sissy's IG (@sissygoff) on Monday, March 27 in the aftermath of the shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville, TN. We pray your conversations lead to hope and healing. How to Talk to Your Kids After a School Shooting:
Stay Calm
Be the Source.
Let them lead.
Give them space to feel.
It's okay to feel with them, not to process with them.
Answer questions age-appropriately and honestly.
Talk about what they can control.
Look for the helpers. Be one.
Ask what would help them feel safe at school.
Don't feel like you have to have all the answers.
Remind them of truth you know.

Episode 93: Helping Kids with Sensory Processsing Disorders
It was our great joy to share conversation with Susan Masie & Danielle Carder. Both women are pediatric occupational therapists at Pediatric Therapies and wise guides who have been supporting kids and families for decades. We talked about what sensory hurdles look like, the connection between sensory struggles and anxiety and some best practices for parents of young children. However, the conversation we shared around regulation could be useful for any aged child or adolescent (or adult for that matter). This will likely be an episode you will want to have a pen and paper nearby to take notes and go back to the ideas recommended by these two wise voices.. . . . .
