Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with actor, comedian, writer and all round sincere talent TONY WAY!Pure goodies for you this week as Brett has a good old fashioned longform chat with Tony, and we all get to know each other that little bit more and it’s all lovely and cosy. I think I find it cosy because Brett recorded this with Tony back in them old pre-lockdown days so there’s that sense of TWO PEOPLE IN A ROOM TALKING! Anyway - it’s a really good one in any sense, as they get along great and Tony’s been in some ace stuff, so yo can expect to hear some jewels dropped on that very subject, including his bootcamp experience (I’ll leave that to him), SALACIOUS Tom Cruise stories (beat that, Buxton and Cornish!), the fine line between happy and emotionally repressed, Star Trek annoyances (I mean we all carry some, right?) and sequel controversies. I’m breaking all kinds of walls here by speaking in the first person throughout but may I say that I’m very impressed by his drum & bass knowledge when he talks about tracks that sampled Predator 2. That is WELL in my wheelhouse right there. A lovely and wide ranging, deep conversation which hits on some surprisingly touching and heartfelt moments. Everything from lockdown thoughts and how working from home has offered her some much needed time with the fam, how her being home so much has turned the cat and dog into trained killers and providers but also messed with the rodent ecosystem somewhat, the existential maladies of having children and some truthful moments, being raised atheist, her genius kids who deliver insight beyond their years, her love of the masculine side of cinema (including Scarface and Rambo of course), and her books and plans and all that good stuff! Go and enjoy, it’s fantastic!• Just a quick note - as Brett mentions in the intro, I had a bit of a rough time getting this one into listenable shape due to some crazy connection and tech issues, but I did what I could! It’s not perfect, but after a few minutes your ears thankfully adjust and you’ll be fine. It’s a treat to catch Brett and Sarah in conversation, again in isolation as we deal with the current ongoing situation, and there’s some real nice up top chat about coping in the behind closed doors way in which many of us are. She nails it by referring to the mix of Blitz spirit and despair, but things don’t end there by any means - we hear about how okay her partner is (no really, she’s fine!), the fact that standups face a unique situation in not having that audience feedback of a crowd (which leads to a fantastic idea about doing cold-call crowd work), and of course you get the usual unique observations about life, love, death, the afterlife or lack thereof and all of that good good stuff.A winner, folks.
