So... there was an election last week! And despite doom-and-gloom polls, and the media trying to gaslight suburban women, democracy and reproductive freedom won big. Turns out, voters don’t support extremism. Who knew? (We did!)Our very own host Jasmine Clark won her election in Georgia, and so did our host Amanda Weinstein’s husband Casey in Ohio. But those wins were only the beginning. Democrats won the Senate! There was historic turnout, especially among young people! Democrats swept Michigan! And everywhere that reproductive rights were placed directly on the ballot, voters supported choice.Of course there were some disappointments and some races we didn’t win, and Georgia is headed into a very important runoff election. But we proved that when we show up and use our voices, it matters. We're going to keep working and keep having these important conversations, because democracy doesn't just happen around an election. There are now only two weeks until the midterms and today, we’re talking about extremism. Conspiracy theories and hateful ideologies like antisemitism are longer just in the fringes, they're in mainstream politics. Extremists are trying to divide us with antisemitism, racism, transphobia, and misogyny, but when we band together, we are far stronger than their hate.Instead of one featured interview, this week Rachel Vindman moderates a panel discussion with three experts on extremism: Amy Spitalnick, the Executive Director of Integrity First for America, a nonprofit that recently won a groundbreaking lawsuit against Unite The Right; Shannon Foley Martinez, a former white nationalist who now actively works to de-radicalize people; and Samantha Kutner, also known as the “Proud Boys Whisperer,” who studies violent extremism and the gender dynamics of radicalization.
