511 – Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning, Andor Season 2
This week, David is seeing movies in France so Da7e, Katey, and Patches got together to talk about Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning and Andor Season 2. One of which they really liked and the other they mostly did not like. There was supposed to be a segment in the middle where David reported from Cannes, but that didn’t work out, we’ll catch up with David when he gets back.

An Afternoon With Katey and Patches
Katey Rich and Matt Patches do their very best in the middle of the afternoon to talk about some stuff including being ready for the next Tom Cruise era (after one of them saw Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning), when Matt first saw the final cut of The Departed, wondering if Brad Pitt can be a Tom Cruise, why movie theme parks still work and the allure of a new Back to the Future movie. They close out wondering if this summer is going to be a terrible summer for movies.

510 – Trump’s “Film Tariffs,” Golden Globe for Podcasts, Thunderbolts*
This week, everyone’s in the war room to look towards the news. First, the President of the United States got on his Truth Social media platform and announced film tariffs that will never happen, but what might actually change with this new attention towards American production? Then, Katey has news about the Golden Globes opening up a new category. Finally, everyone saw Thunderbolts* and therefore everyone on the podcast knows what the * was for. The group debates the movie (including spoilers) and wonders if this is enough for the MCU to be back again.

509 – The Shrouds, More Minecraft Takes, Havoc and Stunts
This week, Da7e and David attempt to explain The Shrouds, the latest David Cronenberg film, which is great but complex. Then, Katey managed to see The Minecraft Movie for herself, finally, and has some adult takes. Finally, Patches has the team watch Havoc on Netflix and talk about the current state of stunt-based action cinema! They’re getting an Academy Awards category!

508 – Steven Soderbergh is Sad, Changes in the Oscar Rules, Sinners
This week, everyone is back in the War Room. First, Patches shared and Guardian article about Steven Soderbergh bemoaning the state of current “movies for adults” and we wonder if it might not be a little overblown (check out the article here). Then, Katey updates the boys on the new Oscar voting rules (and the likely non-enforcement) before the guys talk about Sinners. Ryan Coogler’s movie is making money but is it dun-dun-dun the end of the studio system…somehow?

507 – What We’re Watching, Weird Week of “Harry Potter” News, The Legend of Ochi
This week, it is only Katey and Da7e in the War Room but those two like structure and legacy so this is a full episode of Fighting In The War Room that avoids the Manosphere…sort of. Katey and Da7e catch up on what they have been watching which includes The Pitt Season 1, Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, and…The Masters? Then, Da7e attempts to catch Katey up on Harry Potter franchise news and J.K. Rowling tomfoolery and finally oversteps his lane in a part we needed to cut out (it was a good faith conversation between two hosts who believe trans women are women, not good legal coverage). Then, Da7e and Katey both saw the newest A24 film The Legend of Ochi and have some high praise for it.

506- White Lotus S3, Katey’s Kids Review Minecraft, Can Video Game Movies Finally Be Blockbusters?
This week, everyone is back in the War Room! The group rebounds from the Manosphere by talking about White Lotus Season 3, which aired on HBO/through Max, with full spoilers. Then, Katey has a report from the family trip to Legoland and a review from Charlie and Sam of A Minecraft Movie since Katey didn’t get to see it. David (who also saw A Minecraft Movie) is now wondering if video game movies are poised for a run of blockbusters like superheroes did a decade ago.

Patches and Da7e: Into the Manosphere
This week, David and Katey are out doing important family and movie business, but not Da7e and Matt Patches, who assemble in the War Room not to fight but to have a little free-form media chat that lasted way too long. At least we didn’t cancel the podcast.

504 – The Electric State, The Pirate (1948), Black Bag
This week, Patches is out at some game developer conference, so better time than ever for Katey, Da7e, and David to go hard on The Russo Bros’ Netflix offering The Electric State and how maybe the Russos shouldn’t give interviews anymore. Then, Da7e’s girlfriend watched The Pirate (1948) again, have you all seen The Pirate? It’s pretty fun. Finally, it’s another Steven Soderbergh movie, this one a spy-thriller where most of the action is in the lies.
