New Perspective on Retirement (Bob Hottman)
It seems there’s a constant pull between the DOing side of life – pursuing accomplishments, achieving goals, getting things done… and the BEing side – appreciating the moments, recognizing the beauty in the present, soaking in special opportunities. Most of us tend to lean, usually somewhat strongly, one way or the other. Is it possible to accomplish big things and achieve high level goals… while simultaneously being fully present? And how does the balancing act between the two change throughout the various decades of our lives?Today’s guest – Bob Hottman - encompasses that delicate balance. He recently retired – or as he calls it – graduated – from an extensive career as CEO of a national accounting firm, serves on a plethora of company boards, and is active with a range of associations and community organizations. Yes – he’s one of “those people,” accomplishing more in a day than most of us do in a month – or two months for that matter. And yet I’ve seen him in multiple settings and he’s legitimately enjoying the moment. Maybe he’s just a good actor, but whether he’s guiding a high-profile corporate merger or out cycling with friends, he’s the same guy. We’ll dig into his mindset and approach to life in our discussion. Additionally, many of our listeners are considering life transitions right now, from job changes to retirement. We’ll also explore the practical elements of this “next mountain mindset” during our conversation.Info re earning your health & wellness coaching certification, annual Rocky Mountain Coaching Retreat & Symposium & more via https://www.catalystcoachinginstitute.com/ Best-in-class coaching for Employers, EAPs & wellness providers https://catalystcoaching360.com/ Tap into the home of the (freely available) Not Done Yet! articles on unlocking life's 2nd half here. Fireside Chat: Shifting Focus... Autopilot Power... Retreating Forward!
When we moved to Fort Collins, Colorado in 2021, a new tradition was created – fireside chats. Sometimes it involves a small group of students from the university nearby. Other times it might be friends, family or others pondering career or life changes. Suzanna & I enjoy the spot to discuss the latest book we’ve read and it’s a fun spot to get a little philosophical with anyone who might be staying the night with us. Obviously I can’t bring you the warmth of the crackling fire, views of the setting sun or the back-and-forth discourse we enjoy here. But I thought maybe I could help get you started with your own version of a fireside chats by simply opening up my journal, sharing a few open-ended thoughts about some of the things I’ve been pondering lately, and let you take it from there in whatever direction desired. If it’s your first time joining us here on the Catalyst 360 podcast, I’m Dr. Brad Cooper, CEO of Catalyst Coaching 360 and host of the podcast that has been bringing the very best in health, wellness & performance authors, researchers and others to listeners each week now for 295 consecutive episodes. Thank you for joining us for this special edition. We’ll be back with our traditional interview format next week or there’s a really big library of past episodes you can tap into anytime. Today we'll discuss spheres of control (along with influence and concern), the magic (or damage) of autopilot and the immense value of a personal pondering/planning retreat.Info re earning your health & wellness coaching certification, annual Rocky Mountain Coaching Retreat & Symposium & more via https://www.catalystcoachinginstitute.com/ Best-in-class coaching for Employers, EAPs & wellness providers https://catalystcoaching360.com/ Tap into the home of the (freely available) Not Done Yet! articles on unlocking life's 2nd half here. Ted Lasso Discusses Health, Wellness, Performance and Life!
The television show about Ted Lasso, the college football coach from Kansas who suddenly finds himself coaching a sport he doesn’t understand – the other football – or “Soccer” here in the US – in a country he’s never visited – England – has taken the world by storm the past few years. It became Apple TV’s most popular show ever - by a longshot - and his unique approach to coaching and life has won the hearts of both sports and non-sports fans everywhere. Today you’ll get the very unique opportunity to tap into the wisdom of Coach Lasso in an episode that would not have been possible even just a year ago.Welcome to the Catalyst 360 podcast and today’s guest is Coach Ted Lasso. But of course, Coach Lasso is a fictional character, so we had to get a little creative. We initially spent a few hours interacting with a high level AI system, asking how Coach Lasso would answer a variety of questions related to health, wellness & life. Initially I approached this project as a fun little change of pace for our listeners, but was stunned by the outcome. The answers didn’t simply “sound” like Coach Lasso in terms of language and phrases. Rather – the advice given was truly exceptional guidance! Response after response left me thinking “wow – this is outstanding!”Then, Jeremy Albright, a long-time friend who grew up near Ted Lasso’s fictional home in Kansas, agreed to step in as the interviewee to bring this interview to life. He did a great job and we really appreciated his willingness to put himself out there on this creative project.
