Tanya Berry, PhD: Effective Messaging and Role of Our Feelings
The concept of effective messaging appears straight-forward. A message is delivered, the recipient processes the message and then makes a decision. However, the reality is very different, as we learn in this intriguing interview with Dr. Tanya Berry from the University of Alberta. Our emotional response plays a role and our current level of stress can shift the way in which we process those messages, shifting from a reflective to a more automatic response. Mental Health & Wellbeing: Complementary Roles of Counseling & Coaching (Gem)
Mental health has - fortunately - become a top-of-mind issue in today's world. In the process, the roles of coaches and counselors often becomes blurred. It doesn't have to be that way, as both professions can play a critical role in positively impacting mental health across the spectrum. In this popular throwback episode, licensed counselor and nationally board certified health and wellness coach Suzanna Cooper takes a deeper dive into practice standards, the importance of following standards of practice, and the way in which coaches and counselors can work together for the betterment of the individual - and society as a whole. Fast and Fit after 50: Brad Barton - 53 year old mile world record holder
Is age an excuse? Or a variable to be addressed? In this episode, we chat with Brad Barton, who at the age of 53, ran a 4:19 mile to set the world record. Keep in mind that 4:19 is an impressive mile time for a high school runner - and he did it in his 50's! While he does share some of his running tips and tactics, this discussion is not about running - it's about life - and how we can all make the most of it.If you've been using age (or anything else) as an excuse, here's you're opportunity to garner the motivation, courage and tools to draw a line in the sand and move forward toward your goals!Info re earning your health & wellness coaching certification, annual Rocky Mountain Coaching Retreat & Symposium & more via https://www.catalystcoachinginstitute.com/ Best-in-class coaching for Employers, EAPs & wellness providers https://catalystcoaching360.com/ Tap into the home of the (freely available) Not Done Yet! articles on unlocking life's 2nd half here. Athlete Heart Risks: Fact or Fiction (Dr. Barry Braun & Nate Bachman)
There have been plenty of headlines over the years about the supposed dangers of endurance sports. Starting back in 1984 when Jim Fixx, the author of The Complete Book of Running died of a heart attack in his mid-50's, the suspicions about the supposed dangers of endurance sports have made for great headlines. What doesn't generally hit the news is the full story (e.g., that Fixx was a life-long smoker and his father died of a 2nd heart attack in his early 40's). But the fears are legitimate. Many of us have friends who are incredible athletes who have experienced heart issues, the dramatic headlines continue, and physicians, without exact answers to the question "what should I do," often defer to the (understandably) conservative answer of "stop."Fortunately, the research community is beginning to take a deeper dive into this issue. They are looking at whether these heart issues are anomalies or cause and effect. On this week's episode, we were extremely fortunate to have two of the researchers who recently completed a study looking at the heart risk in long-time, serious endurance athletes. Their findings may surprise you - and they're likely to add a critical piece to this puzzle around the athlete's heart risk Info re earning your health & wellness coaching certification, annual Rocky Mountain Coaching Retreat & Symposium & more via https://www.catalystcoachinginstitute.com/ Best-in-class coaching for Employers, EAPs & wellness providers https://catalystcoaching360.com/ Tap into the home of the (freely available) Not Done Yet! articles on unlocking life's 2nd half here. James Hamblin, MD: If Our Bodies Could Talk
Is there such a thing as "immune boosting" supplements? Should you eat the core of an apple? Does "bullet-proof" coffee really make you bullet proof? Are probiotics important? Is an all-beef diet a good idea? What is a "go to the park" prescription from a doctor? Is there any downside to caffeine? (hint - only in 2 circumstances). These are just a few of the questions best-selling author and physician Dr. James Hamblin addresses in this week's episode!Info re earning your health & wellness coaching certification, annual Rocky Mountain Coaching Retreat & Symposium & more via https://www.catalystcoachinginstitute.com/ Best-in-class coaching for Employers, EAPs & wellness providers https://catalystcoaching360.com/ Tap into the home of the (freely available) Not Done Yet! articles on unlocking life's 2nd half here.
