The End of Title 42 (for real this time).

Title 42. On Thursday, May 11, the controversial Trump-era public health restriction will come to an end at midnight. Title 42 was a public health order issued during the pandemic that was used to promptly turn away migrants who arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border as a way to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The order allowed border officials to deport migrants who are typically allowed to seek asylum in the U.S., sending them back to Mexico or their home country. You can find our previous coverage of immigration issues here. You can read today's podcast here, today’s “Under the Radar” story here, and today’s “Have a nice day” story here.Today’s clickables: Quick hits (0:52), Today’s story (3:00), Right’s take (6:10), Left’s take (9:52), Isaac’s take (13:52), Listener Question (18:55), Under the Radar (20:59), Numbers (21:52), Have a nice day (22:23)You can subscribe to Tangle by clicking here or drop something in our tip jar by clicking here. Our podcast is written by Isaac Saul and edited by Jon Lall. North Carolina's Supreme Court makes a splash.

North Carolina's Supreme Court. Earlier this month, the North Carolina Supreme Court sided with Republicans in three major rulings: upholding the state's voter ID law, throwing out a previous ruling against gerrymandered voting maps, and overruling lower court decisions that felons have the right to vote. The ruling on the gerrymandered legislative maps will likely have a national impact, boosting Republicans' odds of growing their majority in the next House election. You can read today's podcast here, today’s “Under the Radar” story here, and today’s “Have a nice day” story here.Today’s clickables: Quick hits (0:58), Today’s story (2:32), Right’s take (6:00), Left’s take (9:50), Isaac’s take (13:26), Listener Question (18:37), Under the Radar (20:29), Numbers (21:19), Have a nice day (22:04)You can subscribe to Tangle by clicking here or drop something in our tip jar by clicking here. Our podcast is written by Isaac Saul and edited by Jon Lall. Jordan Neely's death.

Jordan Neely's death. On Monday afternoon, Neely was aboard a subway train in New York City when he began shouting at other passengers and "acting erratically," according to witnesses. Another passenger on the train, identified as 24-year-old Marine veteran Daniel Penny, came up behind Neely and put him in a chokehold, while two other passengers helped Penny restrain Neely. After several minutes of holding Neely on the ground, he stopped moving, at which point medics arrived and failed to revive him. New York City's medical examiner determined he had died from compression of the neck. You can read today's podcast here, today’s “Under the Radar” story here, and today’s “Have a nice day” story here.Today’s clickables: Quick hits (0:56), Today’s story (2:40), Left’s take (6:22), Right’s take (10:10), Isaac’s take (14:13), Listener Question (19:50), Under the Radar (20:46), Numbers (21:35), Have a nice day (22:15)You can subscribe to Tangle by clicking here or drop something in our tip jar by clicking here. Our podcast is written by Isaac Saul and edited by Jon Lall. The Supreme Court will re-examine Chevron.

The Chevron deference. On Monday, the Supreme Court said it would reconsider the so-called Chevron deference, a 1984 precedent that conservatives argue gives too much power to federal regulators. The precedent directs courts to defer to a federal agency's legal interpretation when Congress has left statutory language ambiguous. You can read today's podcast here, our latest YouTube video here, and today’s “Have a nice day” story here.Quick hits (1:59), Today’s story (3:39), Left’s take (6:38), Right’s take (10:15), Isaac’s take (13:55), Listener question (19:13), How to submit a question and new YouTube video plug (20:48), Numbers (21:25), Have a nice day (22:11)You can subscribe to Tangle by clicking here or drop something in our tip jar by clicking here. Our podcast is written by Isaac Saul and edited by Jon Lall. Should Dianne Feinstein retire?

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). The 89-year-old senator has served in the Senate for more than 30 years, making her the longest-serving woman in U.S. Senate history. Last year, The New York Times reported that Feinstein was struggling "to recall the names of colleagues, frequently has little recollection of meetings or telephone conversations, and at times walks around in a state of befuddlement." San Francisco Chronicle and The New Yorker had previously published stories describing similar issues. You can read today's podcast here, the Blindspot report on the left here and on the right here, today’s “Under the Radar” story here, today’s “Have a nice day” story here.
