John Wycliffe: The Spiritual Battle
John Wycliffe, "the Morning Star of the Reformation," lived in the 1300s. He helped translate the Bible out of Latin. He wanted to see reforms happen in the church. And this was all rooted in his experience with the black plague.
His sermon, "The Spiritual Battle," takes us back to what it is that causes us to sin. Our flesh not being properly disciplined and our lack of focus on the next life. That the physical is not what causes us problems, but the spiritual.
Special thanks to Jonathan Thiede. He is the host of the Book-It podcast, a great show that helps people learn more about books that they read, and a regular contributor to Revived Thoughts.

Richard Sibbes: I Am My Beloved, And My Beloved Is Mine
Richard Sibbes was a largely influential minister in the early 1600s. He is known for his "affectionate theology" and his elegant words on one's relationship with Christ. He was a member of the church of England but would get in trouble at times for his ties to the puritans.
His sermon, "I Am My Beloved, And My Beloved Is Mine," takes Song Of Solomon allegorically and puts Christ in the place of Solomon and the woman as the church. He then uses this relationship to describe our current relationship with Christ as we wait for Christ to come back.
Special thanks to Lee Jones for reading this sermon. Lee Jones is an Ohio-based self professed theology nerd and podcaster who works in the nursing home industry. He is a churchman who serves his congregation as a volunteer sound guy, and co-hosts Guys With Bibles, a BAR Network podcast that seeks to study scripture, discuss doctrine, and glorify God.

E. K. Love (Emmanuel K. Love) was a preacher at the famous First African Baptist Church of Savannah, Georgia. He was also a huge supporter of missions, a newspaper editor, a school starter, and deeply invested in politics.
This sermon was delivered as a dedication ceremony at another church in the late 1800s. At this point he was already a pastor but he was dedicating the site of a new church, and by doing so he gives us the goal of the Christian church.
Rev. Dr. Irwyn Ince serves as a pastor at Grace DC Presbyterian Church and Director of the newly formed Grace DC Institute for Cross-Cultural Mission. Dr. Ince is a graduate of City College of NY (B.E.E.E, 1995), Reformed Theological Seminary (M.A.R., 2006), and Covenant Theological Seminary (D.Min., 2016). He has contributed to the books Heal Us Emmanuel: A Call for Racial Reconciliation, Representation, and Unity in the Church, and All Are Welcome: Toward a Multi-Everything Church, and has a forthcoming book with InterVarsity Press entitled Beautiful Community: Cultivating the Life of Unity in Diversity as God's Image. He and his wife, Kim, have been married 27 years, and have four children - Jelani, Nabil, Zakiya, and Jeremiah.
