John A. Broadus: Lessons For The Tempted

John A. Broadus became a Christian in his teenage years after being challenged at a revival to take the Word seriously. Although he never went to school personally, he became a teacher and would eventually become an influential professor and president at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. This sermon, "Lessons For The Tempted," shows off his simple way of teaching the truth to those who would listen. He viewed temptation through the lens of James 1, not as a thing to carry as just a burden in this life, but as a way for Christ to make stronger believers out of us. Special thanks to Justin Rea for reading this sermon. Justin Rea is a data analyst from North Georgia. He currently owns and operates soundinworship.com, a website designed to point Christians to great and solid worship music. He is married to his wife, Anna Beth, and has a 1 year old son named Silas.  If you'd like to financially support the show, go to our Patreon! ! Anthony Burges: The Last Day Of Judgment

When asked to submit himself to the Church of England, he refused and was pushed out of his post. It intensely reminds us that the end of our life will come and the way that we lived during this time will be judged on that day. Special thanks to Dave Seip for reading this sermon. Dave Seip is a native of Minnesota but by God's grace lives and serves in Texas. He lives in Denton with his wife and serves his church in multiple ways including teaching and helping maintain the Sunday livestream. John Winthrop: City On A Hill

John Winthrop left Europe and sailed across the ocean to become one of the first governors of Massachusetts. Before the group of Puritans left for the New World this was the final message they heard. And in it was much of the hope for what America could become. The sermon is actually titled, "The Model Of Christian Charity," but is famous for the line, "City on a Hill." This line would go on to become popular in political discussions of the United States of America. But in this sermon, it meant so much more than that. Special thanks to Chris Staron for reading this sermon. Chris Staron is the host of the award winning Truce Podcast — the Christian history show that Podcast Magazine called “reminiscent of Malcolm Gladwell”.
