Gill Gross recaps an eventful Quarterfinal Friday in Toronto, which saw top-seed Carlos Alcaraz lose to Tommy Paul and two-seed Daniil Medvedev lose to Alex de Minaur. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina continued his red-hot run with a decisive win over Mackie McDonald. And in the nightcap, now-title-favorite Jannik Sinner defeated Gael Monfils.
