Informal Mentoring - A Chip Nightingale Interview

We start our next interview with a discussion about informal mentoring with Chip Nightingale. There are many formal mentoring options out there for you. However, some of the best ways to advance your career are to look to the informal ones that are available in your daily life. Your coworkers, leads, and even your boss can provide you with mentoring that is invaluable to your career. Informal Mentoring Happens Every Day There are people in our work and personal lives that pour into us and help us grow. We can look at this as informal mentoring and all it costs is our time and attention. Better yet, we can develop our mentoring skills and help build our teams through mentoring those that are newer than us. That may be those new to the career, the company, or just the team. There are countless opportunities for us to grow and also to help others do the same. A Little Background Chip Nightingale is a pastor, international conference and Bible teacher, entrepreneur, and leadership coach. He loves coaching sports and encouraging leaders through coaching in business and in the church. He currently serves as the Director of Advancement at Word of Life Fellowship. Chip lives in Hudson, Florida, with his wife, Audrey, and they have four amazing children. His Web Site: chipnightingale.com Yes, You Can Lead That is the title of Chip's podcast. It is s podcast about life and leadership lessons from everyday life.  There is also a link to his new book, Ceasefire on the website. It is on how to handle conflict.

Learn To Work As A Team - A Missing Part of Education

The last part of our interview with Sebastian Schieke looks at how we fail to educate people on how to work as a team. We have activities as part of education that give experience with teamwork. However, we tend to skip the essential parts, like how to work with others and assess what motivates us. Better Awareness Helps Us Work As A Team One of the first things we need to understand is what motivates us and how we communicate best. Then, we can work on matching those attributes with those of our teammates. That is an essential step in teamwork and creating high-performing teams. We build from each member's unique skills and drivers to craft a well-oiled team. It is often called an emotional quotient; that is how we work best together. A Little Background Sebastian grew up in the communist part of Germany, where entrepreneurship did not exist. Since moving to west Germany at 14, he has always wanted to run the show. He never had a "real job." His journey brought him to where he is currently: An Entrepreneur, CEO Mentor+Coach, Business Angel, and Investor. He founded, ran, and grew multiple 7-figure companies. Likewise, he invests in startups, mentor and coach CEOs, and help them to move their teams forward. He has also gone through challenging times. He knows what it takes and how to get there, taught by business and life and not only through seminars and books. Personal Motivators And Drivers - Find The Right Approach

We dive further into personal motivators and drivers while discussing with Sebastian Schieke. This topic leads us to assessments and other ways to learn about individual traits. That is where his organization points customers to. They use assessments, and similar fact-finding tools, to help a team learn about the members and the leaders learn how best to use those traits. Every team is a combination of all of the individuals and their motivators, so the better we blend and utilize those, the higher performing the team. Strong Leaders use personal Motivators And Drivers A sports analogy often works well when talking about teams. Every member of a team has a specific set of skills and motivators. The best leaders put the team members in a position to succeed. They ensure the quarterback role is filled by one with those skills and drivers while a receiver position is filled with one who is a good fit there. Just as in sports, there are positions and roles within a team that can not be filled randomly. A good leader places people correctly and helps groom and drive them to be better. A Little Background Sebastian grew up in the communist part of Germany, where entrepreneurship did not exist. Since moving to west Germany at 14, he has always wanted to run the show. Building A High-Performance Remote Team

The discussion with Sebastian Schieke continues as we look at building a high-performance remote team. Not surprisingly, there are similar concerns as with traditional work teams. The team must be able to work together, set common goals, and find fulfillment for the members. None of this is new in leadership or team-building. However, it seems to leave people stumped when it shifts to a remote team. Building a High-Performance Remote Team - Start With People A team is always going to be made up of people. Thus, treating people right and motivating them is always a good step toward building a high-performance team. While there are many approaches, the best teams are able to overcome differences, feel heard, and see the leadership as empathetic in essential ways. Motivators and similar personality traits are not just a "touchy-feely" approach to team performance. They are insights into how to get the various members working together. A Little Background Sebastian grew up in the communist part of Germany, where entrepreneurship did not exist. Since moving to west Germany at 14, he has always wanted to run the show. Moving To Mobile Teams and Building Them - Sebastian Schieke

We start a discussion with Sebastian Schieke at the beginning and how he got into entrepreneurship and building mobile teams. He started as most of us in that generation did with office jobs and dressing for work. Over the last fifteen or so years, there was a change. He started to find that he had a better pool of potential workers when he looked further than his local town. Well before the pandemic forced many into remote work, he used it to build out his teams quickly and precisely. Mobile Teams - The New Normal It seems like a long, long time ago when remote jobs were rare or frowned on. While some companies are transitioning back to office jobs, many of them stick with mobile teams and remote work. Thus, we are seeing those jobs as the new normal. Yet, while new, they do not change some tried and true challenges. The idea of building and strengthening mobile teams is not different from legacy teams in the same office. As we look ahead, Sebastian will show us how to build these teams and instill that feeling of working together even in remote situations. Our Annual Thanksgiving Special

It is time once again for our Thanksgiving special. Yes, that time of year when we pause and reflect a bit. The last few years have been a challenge, Nevertheless, we can all still find things to be thankful for. This exercise is not just to join in the spirit of the holiday; it is a way to maintain focus, recharge, and keep a positive attitude. Yes, this is a way to "keep hope alive." Why A Thanksgiving Special? We could easily skip over these specials and push content as we do throughout the year. However, we want to pause and thank you for listening and being a part of the Develpreneur family. You work all year at becoming a better developer, and a few light episodes are earned. In a similar way, make the most of the occasional holiday to bask in your accomplishments.   Power In Positivity There are countless articles and books on the health effects of positive thinking. You can check this one out in your free time if you want some ideas. That is important because building better developers includes discussing the tools that keep us happy and healthy. While resting and relaxation have benefits, a positive attitude can carry you through every day. It is hard for us to shift gears and think about how blessed we are when we are in the middle of a struggle. However, we can take advantage of "quiet" times or a timely holiday to reset our base thinking. We can decide to build a foundation by looking at the positives and our victories instead of dwelling on negatives and losses. Use this time to take a victory lap you earned by spending the last year becoming a better developer.

Spend Time Or Money - The Best Approach To Growing

We wrap up our discussion with Chris Myles with a continuation of the time or money conversation. There are many ways to grow and build your business. However, the best path to do so can come down to whether you have more time, money, or skill. That alone shows why there are so many ways to start and build a business and part of our wrap-up. With this final part of the interview, we do go a tad off the rails, but a little personal story-telling never hurts. Time Or Money While we review these ways to automate and grow, we also go into some of the starting foci of Chris' site. You will often see him referred to as "Benji's Dad" and see where we started with what he had (his story). Then he launched from there into a business and another and a series of new businesses. However, he keeps that cornerstone of his story a part of every time he advances. A Little Background Chris is an Expert Website Investor, Blogger, and Entrepreneur. He is passionate about passive income, entrepreneurship, investing, American Football, Seinfeld, and The Office. His story is one of perseverance.  However, he has three keys to success. First Key to Success: Paying off Debt and Providing as a Father. Second Key to Success:  Going Full Time and ditching the 9-5. Third Key to Success: Overcoming Struggles and Making Changes. Learn More Blogger Evolution is where the magic happens! You can find all the tools he uses to run his online businesses, podcast show notes, and the popular and FREE Passive Income Workshop. It is where he shows aspiring entrepreneurs the exact steps on how he built a passive income. That income lead to retiring his wife and quitting his job to spend more time with family. From Chris: I married in 2013 and found out we were pregnant with our first son in 2016. My wife sat me down and explained why she needed to quit her $ 40k-a-year job to provide "mommy-care" and not resort to "day-care." So, I started with niche blogging, YouTube, and affiliate marketing. Eighteen months later, we were making enough to pay off our debt and retire my wife. I am a self-proclaimed Seinfeld and the Office nerd and a huge sucker for a good Marvel Movie. I'm passionate about investing and online business, so let's chat and get booked!

Automating Your Processes

In this episode, we continue our discussion with Chris Myles and explore how to define and go about automating your processes. Along the way, we also look at motivation and finding ways to keep things interesting as you grow your business or career. The two topics go hand-in-hand as you will find your greatest happiness when you outsource the tasks you do not enjoy. Go ahead, and keep the fun things for your to-do lists. Automating Your Processes The first step in moving towards delegation or automation is to define your processes so they can be easily communicated. This step can be challenging at times as we are not always clear about what we do. There are steps we take almost unconsciously that we forget to list in instructions. Thus, you need to document and test your results to ensure you adequately captured and defined the process. Once you have that done, it is much easier to take the next step of delegating it to someone else. A Little Background Chris is an Expert Website Investor, Blogger, and Entrepreneur. He is passionate about passive income, entrepreneurship, investing, American Football, Seinfeld, and The Office. His story is one of perseverance.  However, he has three keys to success.
