Conversation with Prof. Glenn Diesen on 'Book Club with Jeffrey Sachs'
The Ukraine War and the Eurasian World Order
https://www.bookclubwithjeffreysachs.org/
Join Professor Jeffrey Sachs and political scientist Glenn
Diesen as they discuss Professor Diesen’s new book, The Ukraine War & the
Eurasian World Order. Professor Diesen explains Europe’s fractured security
framework which he believes has steered the continent toward conflict with no
clear way to reverse course. The conversation focuses on Ukraine - a nation
itself divided within a divided Europe, and a pivotal piece in the deadly
geopolitical chess game between NATO and Russia. Together, they dissect the
high-stakes battle between NATO and Russia, where compromise has so far been
impossible, and yet where the potential consequences of escalation are
catastrophic, up to nuclear war. Join in as they unpack the dynamics of a
rapidly changing world order and what these changes portend for the future of
war and peace, geopolitics, and global governance

The Unstoppable Rise of China - Nelson Wong, Alexander Mercouris & Glenn Diesen
I had the pleasure to speak with Nelson Wong and Alexander Mercouris about the unstoppable rise of China. Wong is the Chairman and Director of ACN Worldwide & President of the Shanghai Centre for RimPac Strategic and International Studies. The purpose of the discussion was to address some common misunderstandings about China, and how China differs from other great powers. The failure of America’s economic coercion and efforts to break China's technological development should have been predictable if there had been a proper understanding of China. Furthermore, if there had been a greater appreciation for the depth of the China-Russia strategic partnership, then the US and its allies would not have wasted their time and political capital attempting to create a split between the two Eurasian giants.

Populism and Classical Liberalism - Lecture by Professor Dan Klein
GMU econ prof Dan Klein says a populist strain is natural to classical liberalism. He draws on ethics and libertarian class analysis. He highlights Javier Milei. He discusses two types of popuphobes, swampy globalists and certain misguided classical liberals. He explains how “populism” is gas in the swampy globalists’ gaslighting—and suggests that the misguided classical liberals are playing into their hands. He relates populism to Max Weber’s three sources of legitimacy for a political leader, finding a correlation between populism and charisma. Classical liberals should be wary of populism but accord it at least one cheer, especially in these times of swampy globalism.

What to Expect with the Return of Trump? - John Mearsheimer, Alexander Mercouris & Glenn Diesen
I had the pleasure to speak with Prof. John Mearsheimer and Alexander Mercouris about what Trump can achieve as he returns to the White House. Trump will seek to shift focus away from an increasingly irrelevant Europe and America’s perpetual wars in the Middle East, as the main challenge to US dominance comes from China. However, Biden has escalated the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East to such an extent that there are options left for Trump.

Peace Agreement to End the Ukraine War -A discussion with the former CIA Director of Russia analysis
A peace agreement will be almost impossible to achieve. Russia considers itself to be fighting an existential threat from NATO and demands that Ukraine restore its neutrality and accept territorial concessions. Even if Trump accepts these conditions, it would be difficult to sell such a peace agreement to Washington, the Europeans and the Ukrainians. As NATO expansionism triggered the war, it is unlikely that even NATO security guarantees to Ukraine would be acceptable in any peace agreement. A peace agreement has more chance to succeed if it is based on the recognition that the Ukraine War is not only a conflict between Ukraine and Russia but primarily a conflict between NATO and Russia. A peace agreement attempting to resolve the destructive zero-sum European security architecture could produce a positive-sum approach to security that benefits Ukraine, Russia and the NATO countries.
